Fuller House Star Shares Theory on Why They Were Fired From the Netflix Series

Actress Christine Lakin, best known for playing the role of Alison Lambert on the 1990s ABC/CBS sitcom Step by Step, recently appeared on the How Rude, Tanneritos! Podcast and opened up about her experience being initially cast in the Netflix sequel series Fuller House. And how she was subsequently fired. The podcast is hosted by Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, who both had roles in Full House and Fuller House, respectively.
Lakin recounted how she was thrilled to receive a casting call from Fuller House creator Jeff Franklin, and after her meeting went well, was “stoked” about appearing on the show. However, just two days before the table read, Lakin received another call, this time from her manager, informing that the table read was being pushed back. She was later told she had been “let go.”
“And then about two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, ‘Yes, something happened. They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite.’

The next day happened and my manager calls and says, ‘Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve been let go.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, they just said they’re rewriting the character and they’re not going to need you anymore. And I was like, ‘What did I do wrong?’ I didn’t even go to a table read.”
Fuller House premiered on Netflix in 2016 as a sequel to the extremely popular sitcom, Full House, which aired from 1987 to 1995. Picking up years after the events of the original series, Fuller House centers around D.J. Tanner-Fuller, a widowed veterinarian who moves back into her childhood home with her three sons, sister Stephanie, and her best friend Kimmy. The show was a nostalgic hit, and it reminded fans greatly of why its predecessor was so beloved.
Christine Lakin’s Participation In A Satirical Video Led to Some ‘Bad Blood’

While Lakin said she was never given an official reason for being fired, she has an interesting theory involving Candace Cameron Bure, who plays D.J. Tanner-Fuller on Fuller House. Lakin speculates her participation in a 2012 satirical video titled ‘CCOKC – Child Celebrities Opposing Kirk Cameron’ might have influenced the sudden change.
The video, produced by Funny or Die, featured Lakin and other former child stars poking fun at the outspoken actor and his controversial anti-LGBTQ+ comments, which his sister was a part of. They humorously criticized Kirk Cameron’s statements about the LGBTQ+ community, which he described as “unnatural” and he even called same-sex marriages “detrimental.”
In the end, Lakin expressed her disappointment over losing the role, stating, “It was a bummer for me. It really was.” She also emphasized the fact that the video was meant to be satirical, not malicious.
