The latest reunion for the cast of Full House ultimately proves that the canceled Fuller House season 6 on Netflix needs to still move forward.
The latest reunion of the Full House cast proves that Fuller House season 6 still needs to happen. Around two decades since the original ’80s/’90s family sitcom wrapped up its run on ABC, Netflix premiered its sequel series which brought the Tanners back to the small screen. While Fuller House wasn’t as good as Full House, it was a hit for the streaming giant. Ultimately, it ended up running for five seasons until it ended in 2020.
Despite a subpar final season, the Fuller House finale actually delivered. It focused on the triple wedding of DJ (Candace Cameron-Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweeting), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) giving the San Francisco-based family a cause for celebration. On the heels of the festivities, however, both Stephanie and Kimmy and their respective partners were supposed to move out of the Tanner household. However, after a brief reconsideration, they decided to stay under one roof for the foreseeable future highlighting Full House’s concept of a non-traditional family. It was a good send-off for the Tanners, but Fuller House season 6 could have happened, as it still has a lot of stories left to tell.
Just because they are no longer working together, doesn’t mean that the Fuller House cast members have already lost touch with each other. Recently, John Stamos and Lori Loughlin, who played Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky, respectively, had a Full House cast reunion, meeting at a Beach Boys concert. Despite being involved in the National College Scandal that forced her to do time in jail, both the crowd at the event and the comment section on Stamos’ social media were filled with positive messages, supporting both of them. It highlights that despite her run-in with the law, Loughlin remains beloved. Stamos and Loughlin’s sighting was followed by the wedding of Jodie Sweeting where many of the Full House cast were present. Once again, this proves that like the Tanners, they continue to have great relationships off-camera, making it so much easier to convince them to return for Fuller House season 6.
Could Fuller House Season 6 Happen?
Currently, there are no plans for Fuller House season 6. For what it’s worth, however, it has been revealed that originally, Netflix was looking to greenlight it. That’s why the Full House’s cancelation came as a shock event to the actors. Years after it wrapped up and even after Bob Saget’s unexpected death in early 2022, most cast members agree that they are more than willing to reconvene to continue the Tanners’ story. That’s already a big step in making Fuller House season 6 a possibility. Now, they have to find another streaming service to pick up the canceled show. Perhaps, Cameron-Bure can sell the idea to GAC Family which she recently joined. After all, considering their shared storytelling philosophies, it seems like a great match. Otherwise, they could also convince Netflix to just simply revive it.
Admittedly, Fuller House failed to capitalize on the legacy of Full House. Instead of taking risks and tackling sensitive issues the way that its parent series did, the sequel relied too much on nostalgia and barely focused on the core relationships of the show which were supposed to be between the kids and their parental figures. By doing Fuller House season 6, they have a chance to rectify these issues, and even honor Saget’s beloved dad, Danny Tanner, along the way.
