Luke was born on July 4, 1988, in Southampton, UK. However, because his dad worked at Disneyland Paris, Luke was raised in Fontainebleau, France. He graduated from the Lycee International Francois Ler, a public secondary school in France, where he studied between 1997 and 2005. After finishing school, Luke moved to England in 2006 and began his acting career after joining Stratford Upon Avon. In 2013, he entered the University of Bristol to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Because he grew up in France, Thompson claims French as his first language. So, when he enrolled at the University of Bristol, he struggled tremendously. He explained, “When I spoke English, I used to feel blank.” Due to this, he began practising English with University workers to become more acquainted with the language.

In 2013, he played the role of Lysander in a stage production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
