Renowned Chef Gordon Ramsay, better known for hosting and judging culinary shows, took to X ahead of Father’s Day to show and tell fathers of all ages about a recent cycling accident that left him shaken and bruised.
“I’d like to share a very important message with you all. You know how much I love cycling and triathlons and Ironman [races] etc and this week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident and it really shook me and honestly I’m lucky to be here,” said Ramsay.
Ramsay, 57, credits his helmet with saving his life.
He went on to say, “I don’t care how short the journey is. I don’t care … these helmets cost money, but they’re crucial. Even with a kid’s short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet.”
The accident happened in Connecticut about a week ago while Ramsay was riding his bicycle, and it has taken a toll. Ramsay’s hands shook as he spoke for just over a minute.
“Now, I’m lucky to be standing here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And I’m sort of getting through it,” Ramsay went on to explain. “I’m doing [okay], and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses, and staff at @LMHospital (Lawrence and Memorial Hospital) who looked after me. I’m most thankful for my helmet, which saved my life.”
About 49 seconds into the one-minute and 11-second video, Ramsay lifted his shirt to reveal a sizable bruise on his torso.
On Facebook, Ramsay shared a photo of the helmet that was in the accident.
“My helmet post-accident,” posted Ransay, along with a photo of the black helmet used during the accident. Chunks of styrofoam material were missing along the front of the helmet.
On Father’s Day, Ramsay assured fans he’s on the road to recovery.
“Even while recovering, I still got the dad jokes!” said the television personality.
