Gordon Ramsay reveals how much allowance he gives his children

He says he wants to teach his children the value of money
Gordon Ramsay may be worth hundreds of millions of pounds, but he makes sure he teaches his children the value of money.

The celebrity chef and restaurateur has six children with wife Tana. Megan, 25, twins Holly and Jack, 24, Tilly, 22, Oscar, four, and Jesse, who was born in November last year.

During an appearance on YouTube’s Last Meals, the 57-year-old opened up about how much allowance he gave to his older family members when they were younger.

In the episode, which aired on Tuesday (January 9), Ramsay said: “Every time they get an allowance, a few hundred dollars a month, if they save it for 12 months, I give them the equivalent at Christmas.”

He believes this taught them the importance of saving and not wasting money.

“They have to keep their heads above water by saving every dollar, and so when you start practicing that, at 10, 11, 12, 13, they have part-time jobs, suddenly their minds are focused on their career path.”

Gordon Ramsay shared six children with wife Tana.

“And yes, it’s the opposite of how I grew up. They’re incredibly disciplined and they’re doing it, man.”

Ramsay, who founded his restaurant empire in 1997 and has received 17 Michelin stars in the years since, is also a well-known face on screen through competitive cooking shows such as Hell’s Kitchen, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, MasterChef and The F Word.

So over time, he has amassed a decent amount of money – a realistic estimate of £610 million.

But his children probably won’t get much of his fortune, as the chef is one of a number of celebrities who have decided that their children won’t inherit their fortunes.

In a 2017 interview with the Daily Telegraph, he explained that he and Tana have worked out how much they would be willing to give their children.

“They certainly won’t be given it, and not in a bad way, but so as not to spoil them,” he said.

“The only thing I’ve agreed with Tana is that they’ll have a 25 per cent deposit on a flat, but not the whole flat.”

He later explained that he wants to instill a strong work ethic in his children, along with a lesson in the importance of earning your own money in life.
