Gordon Ramsay shares emotional reflections on the death of son Rocky
Gordon Ramsay has opened up about losing his son Rocky after his wife Tana suffered a miscarriage in 2016.
The TV chef
described their son’s death at 20 weeks as “really tough” in a recent interview with
People
magazine.
“There’s no book that tells you how to get through that kind of loss, so losing Rocky was really tough,” Ramsay, 56, reflected. “When you see the trauma happen, it was a life-changing moment.”
Ramsay – whose former co-star Angela Hartnett recently
appeared on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with cinch
– also spoke about how the experience brought his family closer together.
“There was this incredible celebration that she was pregnant and everything was going so well, and then suddenly everything changed in 24 hours,” he explained. “I think if anything, it brought the family closer together.”
Gordon and Tana share five other children together, Megan, 25, twins Jack and Holly, 23, former Strictly Come Dancing star Matilda ‘Tilly’ Ramsay, 21, and a young son called Oscar, four.
“It’s been hard, because we would never have had Oscar without Rocky,” the travel show star said in the interview.
“There’s no replacement, absolutely not,” he added, “But it’s given us a bond that you would never have in a normal situation, and that’s been amazing.”
The Ramsays named their home in Cornwall ‘Rocky Bay House’ after their son, and also have jewellery engraved with his name in his memory, all of which Gordon said helped bring the family together and help them cope with the loss.
Their daughter Holly also has a tattoo in memory of Rocky, which Tana commemorated in a thoughtful Instagram post she made to mark seven years since his death in July 2023.
Speaking about his wife in a recent interview, Gordon described her as “incredibly resilient”, adding that their children “get a lot of strength from their mother”.
“Tana has done so much, we wouldn’t be here today without that strength,” he said, echoing words she said about her family in her Instagram post earlier this year.
