Gordon Ramsay has a resume that speaks for itself: eight Michelin stars, more television shows than we can count, and nearly 90 restaurants and food pop-ups around the world. So when it comes to preparing a simple dish like eggs, the man knows what he’s doing—even if his technique is a little unconventional to fans.
So how exactly does the Hell’s Kitchen host whip up the classic breakfast dish? When it comes to fried eggs, Ramsay swears by several tips to create the “perfect” result.
He starts with olive oil in the pan and cracks the eggs on top with a touch of salt and pepper, before turning up the heat and letting them sit. Then he tosses in several slices of butter, which cooks the top of the eggs as it froths. At the end, he removes the pan from the burner and serves up the finished product.
Fans, however, weren’t exactly impressed with his technique.
“Damn, there’s so much oil on the eggs that the US is looking to invade,” one user joked.
Another added, “I will never agree with how Gordon cooks his eggs.”
“Too much oil Ramzy” and “had hoped this was the parody account,” others chimed in.
Woof. Tough crowd.
And it wasn’t just the oil issue. One person critiqued his use of butter too, writing, “it looks good just too much butter.”
Ramsay’s scrambled eggs had a similar effect on fans, unfortunately. In another clip, Gordon shares that his “secret” to the perfect batch is taking the pan on and off the heat so they don’t overheat. He also doesn’t whisk them before cooking because it “turns the whole thing grainy.”
The celeb chef adds in a couple “knobs of butter,” just like his fried egg recipe, and uses a spatula to start stirring. After 60 seconds on, he takes the eggs of the flame, and continues to stir the mixture before putting them back on the stove at a lower heat. Ramsay also adds in a little crème fraîche (to help with overcooking, once again) and seasoning before serving the “light and fluffy” breakfast.
“All I see is a whole lot of not done yet,” a person commented on TikTok. “How not to make scrambled eggs,” another joked.
“They ain’t done Gordon 😕,” a third user wrote, while one user said they could make a “better” version themself.
Hey, at least they liked his Eggs Benedict recipe—with “nicely seasoned” poached eggs and a warm hollandaise sauce. One fan even said “Watching him cook is like watching Bob Ross paint.”
