Gordon Ramsay’s Love Story Is More Intriguing Than You’ll Ever Know On TV
Gordon Ramsay is all about swearing and screaming. But behind the scenes, his relationship with his wife Tana is even more dramatic.
When Gordon and Tana met, she was dating another man.
Before the swearing chef came into her life, Tana was dating another British chef named Tim — who happened to be Gordon’s friend. After the two broke up, Gordon swooped in, and he and Tana began a relationship.
They had to see each other at odd hours of the night.
The life of a chef can be hectic, and Gordon was no exception. He wouldn’t leave work until late at night — or early in the morning — and Tana would wait to make time for him.
When they tried to conceive, Tana quickly discovered she had polycystic ovary syndrome. Gordon also told James Cordon on The Late Late Show, “I had a really low sperm count after standing in the kitchen near the stove for so long.” The couple struggled to conceive.
The couple turned to IVF.
After IVF, Tana and Gordon welcomed a daughter, Megan, in 1998. With more treatments, they were also able to have twins Holly and Jack in 1999 and Matilda in 2002. With four grown children, Gordon and Tana were able to conceive again.
Gordon announced the news on The Late Late Show in May 2016. But just a month later, five months into her pregnancy, Tana suffered a miscarriage.
They leaned on another famous British couple after the tragic news.
Gordon and Tana have been friends with David and Victoria Beckham for years and were part of their support system after the miscarriage. “They came to see Tana and I straight away and showed their support, and it was amazing,” he said in an interview with Gordon, who was accused of having an affair for seven years.
In 2008, a woman named Sarah Symonds claimed she had been with Gordon throughout his marriage. The so-called “professional mistress” had written a book the year before called Having an Affair? A Handbook for the Other Woman. Gordon dismissed the whole thing as gossip and denied it, and Tana remained in the marriage.
Gordon and Tana’s father had a messy split.
The two had gone into business together early in Gordon’s career. Tana’s father, Chris Hutcheson, helped Gordon fund his first restaurant and the two worked together for nearly a decade. But in 2010, Gordon accused Hutcheson of embezzling more than a million pounds. After the initial fight, Hutcheson was sentenced to six months in prison for hacking into Gordon’s email.
But that only made the couple stronger.
“We had families to protect, and you get possessive. We looked out for each other. And that really brought us—me, Tana, and the kids—closer than ever,” Gordon told The Daily.
But Gordon and Tana also knew how to have fun together.
Tana is a fitness fanatic, and Gordon said triathlons were his “escape.” The pair completed a half Ironman together in England in 2015. They shared a special hug and kiss on the podium.
