Gordon Ramsay’s wife and daughter say he stole the credit for their cooking successes
He made a name for himself by pestering staff about messes but Gordon Ramsay’s wife has revealed it was HE who made a mess of their kitchen.
Tana revealed the celebrity chef was actually a nightmare in the kitchen when he cooked Christmas dinner: “On the day, he made a mess with lots of oil splattered everywhere, and with his ingenuity, he put it all together and took all the credit.”
In an exclusive mother-daughter interview, Tilly, 16, agreed that her dad took all the credit for the cooking – even though she worked hard alongside her siblings.
Tilly, who has a cooking show on CBBC, said: “We all help dad, actually.
So on Christmas Eve we help him prep the vegetables, get everything ready so it’s quick and easy.”
Tilly is the youngest of Gordon and Tana’s four children, with Megan, 20, and 18-year-old twins Jack and Holly away at university.
This week, Gordon, 51, admitted he felt “lost and heartbroken” when his older children moved away – and even wore his son’s trousers and socks around the house to help him cope with empty nest syndrome.
He also said he hoped teenage Tilly would stay at home until she was 25.
But she said that would not happen as she definitely wants to go to university after completing her A-levels in biology, psychology and physical education.
Tilly described the family her family is very busy, adding that celebrity life and having friends like the Beckhams is just normal for her.
Tana, who has been married to Gordon for more than 20 years and also has a series of best-selling cookbooks, says she tries to keep the kids calm.
“I have a fun normal life,” she says. “I take the tube or the bus – that’s how the kids get around. I think it’s important that they all see mum working hard, dad working hard and they’re always trying their best.
“Teaching independence early is really important and the only thing I’m strict about is holiday time. In the summer, there’s always two weeks where no one does anything but be with the family so we can be together.”
The talented Tilly has just finished filming the fifth series of Matilda and The Ramsay Bunch, which is due to premiere in the spring.
Cameras follow the Ramsay family around their LA home, with Tilly whipping up recipes such as messy mud cakes, monstrous smoothies and creepy pepper goblin heads.
“I really enjoy what I do because I know it inspires people and cooking is a skill you definitely need to have,” she says.
“You can expect lots of fun and great cooking tips. I love cooking – and sports too.” Tilly has inherited her love of fitness from her parents, who run marathons and compete in Ironman competitions.
And she’s keen to follow in their footsteps and run a marathon when she turns 18.
“We’re definitely a very competitive family,” she says. “We love spending time together – we have three dogs so we love walking the dogs, going for lunch or running as a family.”
Tilly and Tana have also teamed up with Boots UK to urge parents to get their children over 10 vaccinated against flu this autumn.
“Older teenagers are super-spreaders,” says Tana. “They’re at school and parties and they spread it around the family, where there are older vulnerable relatives.
“The men in our family always tend to say that colds are flu – but flu is actually just as easy to catch.”
