Hell’s Kitchen host and master chef Gordon Ramsay is known for his demeaning criticism of competing chefs in the kitchen, his misogynistic comments, and his stern warnings to struggling restaurateurs on his show Kitchen Nightmares. He’s what you might call a bully when it comes to baking.

However, over the years, the media has shown a different side of Gordon. He’s been described as a likable, socially motivated person who’s great with children and a loving husband to his wife, Tana Ramsay.

Cayetana (Tana) Elizabeth Hutcheson was born in Surrey, England, where she grew up on a farm and worked for her father’s business. She later went to school to study and train in the Montessori Method.

She worked as a teacher for a while before deciding to stay home with her children.

Tana and Gordon met in 1992. At the time, she was dating Gordon’s friend, a British chef named Tim. Out of respect for their relationship, Gordon waited until Tana was single before asking her out.

The couple’s dating lives revolved around different schedules: Gordon worked 16-hour days in the kitchen and Tana worked as a teacher. It wasn’t ideal, but they made it work; they wanted to be together.

In 2008, “professional lover” Sarah Symonds revealed in a book that she had an affair with Gordon for seven years while he was still married to Tana.

Although the claim affected their relationship in private, Tana did not let on that it had happened. Gordon denied the affair and Tana moved on.

Tana and Gordon’s fathers have a rocky relationship.

Tana’s father, Chris Hutcheson, is a businessman who funded Gordon’s first restaurant. After an argument with Gordon, Chris decided the best form of revenge was to hack his computer and reveal important financial information.

Along with Tana’s two brothers, Adam and Chris, Jr., Chris was arrested for computer hacking and conspiracy against Gordon. He was sentenced to six months in prison in 2011.

Tana owns the All About the Girl beauty salon and spa in London. She has also appeared in her daughter’s reality TV series, Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch and Dancing on Ice in 2010.
