Gordon Ramsay’s Wife, Tana, Is Proof That Opposites Attract
Host and head chef of Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay, is known for his demeaning criticism of competing chefs in the kitchen, his misogynistic comments, and his stern warnings to struggling restaurateurs on his show Kitchen Nightmares. He’s what you might call a bully when it comes to baking.
However, over the years, the media has shown a different side to Gordon. He’s been described as a likable, socially motivated person who’s great with children and a loving husband to his wife, Tana Ramsay.
Gordon met his wife, Tana, while she was dating his friend.
Cayetana (Tana) Elizabeth Hutcheson was born in Surrey, England, where she grew up on a farm and worked for her father’s business. She later went to school to study and train in the Montessori Method.
She worked as a teacher for a while before deciding to stay home with her children.
Tana and Gordon met in 1992. At the time, she was dating Gordon’s friend, a British chef named Tim. Out of respect for their relationship, Gordon waited until Tana was single before asking her out.
The couple’s dating lives revolved around different schedules: Gordon worked 16-hour days in the kitchen and Tana worked as a teacher. It wasn’t ideal, but they made it work; they wanted to be together.
They married four years later in 1996.
Gordon and Tana struggled to conceive.
Tana suffered from polycystic ovary syndrome, which made it difficult for her to conceive on her own. Tana admits that starting IVF made her feel like a failure, but her treatments proved effective.
She gave birth to her first daughter, Megan, in 1998. She underwent IVF again and gave birth to twins Jack and Holly 11 months later. In 2002, she gave birth to her daughter Matilda without IVF.
Tara had not planned to have a fifth child, but in 2016, she became pregnant again. Unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at five months. But then, in 2019, Tana welcomed the couple’s son Oscar.
She is a strong woman and can take care of herself.
Many people may wonder what it is like to be married to someone who has stated that women are basically a hassle in the kitchen because they need maternity leave and time off to deal with “women’s issues”, but for Tana, that is not a problem.
Tana has been honest in her interviews that Gordon’s outdated patriarchal attitudes do not bother her. She also revealed how strict she is with her children — to the point where Gordon’s mother said something.
She has also said that she doesn’t need a devoted husband to make life work. In an interview with the Daily Mail, she said of her relationship: “I can manage and I always have.”
