Chicago Fire co-showrunner Andrea Newman teases Hermann’s fate after the events of the season 12 premiere will have ramifications. One Chicago returns after an extended hiatus due to the dual Hollywood strikes of 2023. Aside from tackling the cliffhangers set in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale, it also introduced new storylines that will impact the rest of season 12. One of the bigger new arcs in season 12 is Hermann’s state after his heroic save from an arsonist. On the heels of the foiled bombing, he appears unscathed but, later on, is found by Ritter, seemingly still shaken by what happened to him.

The question is, can Ritter get him to confront the truth of his struggles, or will Herrmann end up getting himself or someone else hurt by not dealing with it? Between the nature of their jobs and how long the show is on the air, Chicago Fire has seen its fair share of character exits and entrances. Chicago Fire season 12 already has a few exits, with Gallo already bidding farewell and Brett set to follow. Meanwhile, there are theories that Severide will also leave Firehouse 51.
