‘He’s the Beating Heart of the Family’: Jonathan Bailey Discusses His Excitement About Luke Thompson Leading ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4

“Benedict is full of wonder and joy, and he’s the beating heart of the family.”

It’s only been a few months since Bridgerton Season 3 wrapped, but I’ll be honest: I’m still enjoying the Bridgerton summer.

Of course, Bridgerton returned this year after a two-year wait with Season 3, focusing on the love story of Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan). As of July 3, the season has become Netflix’s 10th-biggest English-language series, with 91.9 million views and counting.
From the carriage scene to the mirror scene and everything in between, Bridgerton Season 3 has been one of the most talked-about shows of the year, so it’s no surprise that fans like me have been eager for ANY information about Season 4.

In July, Netflix officially revealed that Season 4 would focus on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and his journey to find love. The season will be an adaptation of Julia Quinn’s third book, An Offer from a Gentleman.

An Offer from a Gentleman follows Sophie Beckett, who dreams of finding her “Prince Charming” when she sneaks into the Bridgertons’ famous masquerade ball. She ends up spending the night with Benedict.

It’s worth noting that the series skipped Benedict’s story in favor of adapting Colin and Penelope’s book first.

And like previous Bridgerton seasons (and the books), while another Bridgerton sibling will be a main character, that doesn’t mean we won’t see previous main characters pop up. Characters often appear and disappear from each other’s books.

Regé-Jean Page is the only main cast member not to return after his season. Phoebe Dynevor appeared in Season 2, but did not return for Season 3.

Nicola and Luke N. have been announced as Penelope and Colin in Season 4. Nicola told the Wrap that it’s “great” and they can’t wait to “come back and have some fun.”

And now Jonathan Bailey has also confirmed his involvement in Season 4. While appearing on Good Morning America to chat about his Emmy-nominated work on Fellow Travelers, Jonathan opened up about the upcoming Bridgerton season.

“I’m looking forward to reading the script and finding out for myself,” Jonathan said when asked if he knew what would happen to Anthony in Season 4.

When we last saw Anthony and Kate in Season 3, Kate was pregnant and the couple decided to travel to India to have the baby.

He added, “I’m scheduled to come back in a few weeks, so I’m really excited.”

In June, Simone Ashley also teased the return of Anthony and Kate, saying, “Both Johnny and I are very fond of our characters, Kate and Anthony, and their relationship and what they mean to the show. I think we’ll do everything we can with our schedules to make that happen, hopefully.”
