VIRGIN RIVER star Alexandra Breckenridge – best known for playing Mel Monroe – has revealed she experienced horrible pain during filming for several scenes in the Netflix drama’s latest season.
Alexandra Breckenridge will be reprising her role as Mel Monroe opposite Martin Henderson’s Jack Sheridan for a fourth and fifth season of Netflix’s popular romantic drama. Unfortunately, the Virgin River star has admitted her experience on the set of the series back in season three wasn’t always pleasant in a recent Instagram post.
The television star revealed she experienced a painful toothache on the set of Virgin River season three.
In one of her recent Instagram Stories [via Hello!], she recalled the unpleasant experience during filming and likened the pain to childbirth.
She told her 813k followers: “So I have a little fun quick story for you guys today, during season three … I posted something about having an emergency root canal.
“I just wanted to point out there are a few scenes on the show where I was actually in the most excruciating pain, besides childbirth, of my life.”
Not only did she have to endure the pain, but she forced herself to complete a number of crucial scenes as Mel at the same time.
Alexandra revealed her tooth had cracked or chipped, which steadily worsened over the course of the shoot.
“Over time that crack expanded, it wasn’t infected but the root was dying, the nerve was dying,” she recalled.
The actress was able to take breaks in between scenes but was unable to postpone the shoot to deal with the problem as Virgin River’s production had to stick to a tight schedule.
She was even made to eat during certain sequences despite the almost unbearable pain in her tooth.
Her story continued: “I was having to take breaks and sometimes I would be on my knees breathing at my chair.
“But I had to continue to work because that was on the schedule. So I’m at work, horrible pain, the scene where I was eating sushi.
“That is what I was filming that day! I had to eat sushi with a tooth that was broken.”
Thankfully, one of the show’s directors, Monika Mitchell, was on hand, who eventually stepped in to call some emergency help to deal with Alexandra’s pain.
“They gave me half a root canal to get me through the weekend,” she confirmed.
“She called her dentist and said, ‘Please help this poor girl!’”
Alexandra thankfully recovered enough to complete her commitments to the third season of Virgin River, and the new episodes were released on schedule.
The experience clearly didn’t put her off, either, as she will also be reprising her role as Mel Monroe for the fourth and fifth outings of Netflix’s crowd-pleasing romance.
She recently confirmed season four had finished filming, so fans shouldn’t have much longer to wait before the new episodes become available to stream.
