How Many Episodes Will Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 Have?
The second season of Yellowstone Season 5 will have six episodes. Sheridan previously told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2023 that he felt Paramount could give him 10 episodes if he needed them. “If I think it needs 10 episodes to finish, they’ll give me 10 episodes,” Sheridan said. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”
Who’s in the cast of Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2?
Most of the cast of Yellowstone Season 5 is expected to return for the epic finale, with the exception of Kevin Costner, whose involvement remains uncertain. Key cast members who could potentially return include Beth (Kelly Reilly), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille).
Is Kevin Costner returning for Yellowstone Season 5?
As of June 20, it’s unclear whether Kevin Costner will appear in Season 5, the second installment. In recent months, the actor has been vocal about his desire to finish the beloved Western series. In interviews, he’s also opened up about what happened between him, the show’s creator, and Paramount.
“I’d love to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to,” Costner told Entertainment Tonight about completing Yellowstone in April. “… I thought I’d do seven [seasons], but we’re only doing five. So how it goes — I hope so — but they have a lot of different shows going on. It could be. It could come back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”
During a child support hearing on September 1, 2023, Costner testified that he was offered a sixth season of Yellowstone, but negotiations didn’t go as planned. At the time, he claimed he was offered less money and there were “creative” issues. (In 2022, Variety reported that Costner was earning $1.3 million per episode.) The 69-year-old actor also said in court documents that he was “no longer under contract” to the show.
As for the TV series that made headlines last year, Costner told GQ in May that his real issues with the show were simpler than the media portrayed. When he began working on Horizon, he said he envisioned a four-part feature film to complement Yellowstone. “I’ve always wanted to do this movie,” Costner told the site, “and I’m doing Yellowstone. I love Yellowstone.” (Horizon’s first chapter will premiere on June 28, 2024, while Chapter 2 will follow on August 16, 2024.)
But he said he was waiting and keeping time in his schedule to do Yellowstone as production was delayed for a variety of reasons, including COVID, the writers’ strike, and other scheduling disagreements. “We very rarely start when we say we’re going to start, and we don’t finish when we say we’re going to start,” he added.
Then the show decided to split Season 5 into two parts. “And their grand plan was to suddenly do eight seasons and then do another eight in the fall,” he explained. “I said, ‘I have a contract to do Horizon, and I have the people and the money.’ I think there was a belief that I couldn’t do it, but I don’t really care what people believe.” In a recent interview with People, Costner explained that when Yellowstone was pitched to him, it was originally just for one season. “I think what happened was the studio didn’t want it,” he said. “And because [Sheridan] is such a prolific writer, he said, ‘I can do it. I could make a series that would last.'”
In response, Costner said he would “do it for three seasons,” but ended up “doing it for five seasons.” When rumors began to circulate about his alleged conflicts with the show, Costner said he was “disappointed” that no one came to his defense.
“I read all the stories,” he revealed to the site. “I was disappointed that no one stood up for them… ever stood up for what I actually did for them. There was a moment where I thought, ‘Well, when is someone going to say something about what I did versus what I didn’t do?'”
