How Many Michelin Stars Does Chef Gordon Ramsay Have?

Scottish by birth, UK chef Gordon Ramsay was brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and initially aspired to be a professional footballer. However, when an injury prematurely put an end to any hopes of a promising career on the pitch, Ramsay went back to college to complete a course in hotel management. His dedication and natural talent led him to train with some of the world’s leading chefs, including Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White in London, and Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon in France.

As famous for his foul mouth and Tv shows as his culinary talent, Ramsay is one of the world’s most recognizable chefs. As a TV personality on both sides of the Atlantic, he divides opinion – surely at least part of the reason for his continued success. At the dinner table, however, there is no debate. The man can cook.

With a restaurant empire that includes over 30 highly-acclaimed restaurants throughout Europe, Asia, and the USA, Ramsay is one of the most influential and successful restauranteurs in the world.Gordon Ramsay ranks highly among Michelin star chefs. He received his first Michelin star in 1994 and second star in 1997. His prestigious third Michelin star was earned at his eponymous Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in 2001, making him the first-ever Scottish chef to win 3 Michelin stars, an accolade which he still holds.

Today, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is London’s longest-running restaurant to hold this award, and Ramsay is one of only four chefs in the UK to maintain three stars. Gordon also holds a Michelin star at his other London restaurant Pétrus in Knightsbridge. In addition to his stars in the UK, Gordon holds two stars at Le Pressoir d’Argent in Bordeaux and one star at Gordon Ramsay au Trianon in Versailles.

Overall, Ramsay has been awarded 22 stars across 16 restaurants, considering both the ones owned and/or operated by him. Having seen nine of those restaurants close, however, he currently holds seven stars across four restaurants.
