‘I secretly think he got a hair transplant’: Steve Carell’s Hair Transplant Is Still up for Debate After NBC Made Him ‘Ugly’ in the Office Season 1

Steve Carell’s alleged hair transplant after season one of ‘The Office’ remains a mystery just like the identity of the Scranton Strangler.

There are so many things that stand out about The Office. Whether it’s the absurd dynamics between the employees or Jim’s pranks on Dwight, the heartfelt moments tucked between the chaos, or Michael Scott’s unconventional leadership, it’s impossible to pick one favorite element from it all. However, if there was a gun pointed at our head and we HAD to pick something out, we’d definitely choose Steve Carell’s portrayal of the iconic and lovable regional manager.

One thing about Steve Carell’s Michael is that his looks match his fun-loving personality. He looks like the kind of guy you could approach when something’s troubling you. While we don’t know if he’d fix your problems or double them, we know he’ll try his best to help. However, Season 1 Michael was a completely different story and he sported the look of a no-nonsense boss as well with his slick back hair. Season 2 came with such a drastic glow-up that fans are still wondering if Steve Carell had a hair transplant done.

Did Steve Carell Have a Hair Transplant after Season One?

When Steve Carell first came on our screens as Michael Scott, he sported a slick back hairstyle, trying to establish his image as a more serious boss. But then Season 2 came around and we saw a completely different Michael. Not only was he much more likable than before, but he also looked different thanks to the new hairstyle.

Since then, fans of the sitcom have only asked one question, “Did Carell get a hair transplant?!”

To make things clearer, look at this image of the actor in Season 1, Episode 1 of The Office:

That’s quite a bit of a difference, isn’t it? The slicked-back hair is gone which basically changed the whole look of Michael Scott. He now looks a lot more likable than before, something which Carell anyway was going for.

His hairline simply kept getting better and better over the seasons and the man kept looking younger and younger. Take a look at a side-by-side comparison:

So, did Carell get a hair transplant or not? Well, the answer is as obvious as what lies at the end of the rainbow – we don’t know! The actor’s hair transformation continues to be one of the mysteries of the world.

Hairstylist Kim Ferry joined the team in Season 2 so she doesn’t know exactly what was going on in the dressing room when it came to Carell’s hair but she knew she had to fix it.

In a conversation with Mashable, Ferry stated that when she first got the job, she was sent a few tapes of the show to figure out her game plan. When she looked at Carell’s hair, she went, “Oof!” Ferry was determined to shake things up for the character.

She even talked to Carell about her idea and he was totally on board, Ferry said,

Season 1 was a different hair department head, so I didn’t have any control of that. But when I knew that I had the job they sent me some tapes of the show, and when I watched the tapes I was like, ‘Oof.’ I felt like it was a very severe look on [Steve]. I wanted to talk to [him] about it, and that’s the first thing I did. He was like, ‘Yeah, I definitely want to change it.’

As per Ferry, the team of The Office was trying to make him look more like Gordon Gekko from the 1987 Oliver Stone film, Wall Street. However, in doing so, Ferry believes they ended up making him a bit too creepy.

What I was told was that his character in the first six episodes — basically they were going for like a Gordon Gekko. They wanted it to be slick. But I felt like it made him too, I don’t want to say creepy, but it wasn’t flattering.

Thus, Carell found his new look thanks to Ferry. Now, whether it was makeup, hair products, different styling techniques, or even hair transplants, we don’t know. All we know is that it sure worked in his favor!
