Netflix is packed with romantic titles, and they’ve just added one more: Virgin River, a new romantic drama series. Based on a series of novels by author Robyn Carr, the new show is a cozy, classic romance set in a small California town. One part Hallmark, one part Hart of Dixie, it’s the latest in a long line of romantic offerings from Netflix. Whether you’re looking for something to binge over a weekend or searching for something to snuggle up in front of on your next date night, this might be the show for you. Keep reading to find out more details about Netflix’s Virgin River.
Netflix’s new drama is based on Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series of romance novels. According to Deadline, the series revolves around Melinda Monroe, “who answers an ad to work as a nurse practitioner in the remote California town of Virgin River thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind. But she soon discovers that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected and that she must learn to heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home.”
Virgin River stars Alexandra Breckenridge (aka This Is Us’s Sophie) as Melinda. She’ll be joined by Martin Henderson — who you’ll remember as Dr. Riggs on Grey’s Anatomy — as ex-Marine bar owner Jack, Colin Lawrence as Jack’s employee and former comrade-in-arms John, and Jenny Cooper as Melinda’s sister Joey. Other familiar faces in the cast will include Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, and Daniel Gillies.
The first season of Virgin River arrived on Netflix on Friday, Dec. 6, with its full season dropping all at once. Ten episodes, running between 41 and 48 minutes each, comprise the season, and there’s no word yet on the fate of the show for a second season.
