Kathy Griffin Recalls Rosie O’Donnell Being Mistaken for Roseanne Barr

Kathy Griffin shared a hilarious story during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, as she continues her journey back into Hollywood’s good graces. Griffin, known for her sharp wit and unfiltered humor, discussed her reentry into showbiz while promoting her upcoming New Year’s Eve stand-up show at The Chicago Theater—the first since her controversial fallout after posing with a fake Donald Trump head covered in blood.

“I’m kind of getting back in with certain celebrities,” Griffin told Kimmel. Reflecting on her past, she quipped, “Every so often, I do a little decapitating on the side. But I’m done with that now.”

During their conversation, Griffin shared a standout anecdote from a recent pink glitter-themed party at Paris Hilton’s house, where she participated with Rosie O’Donnell. Among the star-studded guests, which included Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Griffin recounted a bizarre interaction with an unnamed MAGA supporter—one of the Hilton family’s conservative friends.

According to Griffin, the man approached O’Donnell and said, “Well, am I relieved to finally see a real conservative here.” Taken aback, O’Donnell clarified that she is, in fact, “as far to the left as you could probably get.” Despite her explanation, the man persisted, insisting he had seen her “hilarious comedy special” on Fox News’ app.

It wasn’t until that moment that Griffin and O’Donnell realized he had mistaken her for Roseanne Barr, who released a stand-up special titled Cancel This! on Fox Nation the previous year. Griffin described how O’Donnell corrected the man and then introduced him to her “best friend.” In true Griffin fashion, she mimed holding a Trump head and dragging her finger across her throat as a joke, adding, “He was thrilled to meet me!”

Later in the interview, Griffin grew emotional, thanking Kimmel for standing by her side during the fallout from the Trump controversy. She revealed that she gave him a shoutout every night during her My Life on the PTSD-List comedy tour, recognizing him as the only late-night host who “never ditched” her.

In response, Kimmel, who has invited Griffin on his show six times since the incident, joked, “Not only would I not ditch you, I look forward to us spending time in prison together in January.”

The lighthearted yet poignant interview showcased Griffin’s signature humor, resilience, and her gratitude for those who have supported her during her career highs and lows.
