The Yellowstone Franchise Is Hugely Successful

“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions — and, we’re just getting started,” Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios President Chris McCarthy said in a statement in 2023. “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”

The other spinoff series mentioned by McCarthy, 1944, is planned to be set in its titular year, exploring another period of the Dutton family history. This series would serve more as a sequel to 1923, the spinoff starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. The show is going to be filmed in Bitterroot Valey, but not much else has been revealed about the project. As for 1923, that spinoff will be returning with a second season. Season 2 will serve as the final season of the show, setting up for 1944 to continue the story. It would seem that even with the main series preparing to reach its end, the franchise will continue to expand.

The new spinoff series for Yellowstone is reportedly planned to debut in 2025 following the conclusion of Yellowstone‘s fifth season, with the final episodes arriving in November 2024.
