The two actors talk to people about reprising their ‘Young and the Restless’ roles for two episodes of ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ in August
When Lauralee Bell and Michael Damian reunited onscreen on The Young and the Restless in 2023, they fulfilled the decades-long dreams of loyal viewers. Now, the two actors are upping the ante with a Bold and the Beautiful crossover.
Lauralee and Damian are set to appear in two episodes of the popular soap airing Aug. 13 and 14, where Lauralee will reprise the beloved role of Christine “Cricket” Blair, and Damian will once again play Danny Romalotti. According to a synopsis, “Danny and Christine are invited to the Forrester Estate for a party celebrating the success of the relaunch of Brooke Logan’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) ‘Brooke’s Bedroom’ fashion line… or so they think.”
“Little do Danny and Christine know, Brooke and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) have invited them to pitch a new business venture,” the synopsis continues. “Not to be outdone, Danny decides to give a surprise performance of his own to share with the partygoers.”
Lauralee, 55, tells people the idea came from her brother Bradley Bell, an executive producer and head writer on The Bold and the Beautiful.
“We got this invitation from the Forresters to come to their launch party,” she says of the premise. “Danny gets this great offer, and then we plan to leave LA the next day because we’re on tour, baby.”
Damian, who says the crossover will deliver a “lot of drama,” will perform a new, remixed version of his 1989 Billboard chart-topping single Rock On. While the original track featured a mid-tempo sound emblematic of 80s rock, this new contemporary remix will take a “groovier dance groove” approach, according to the actor.
“It was the first time I’ve ever performed this [remix],” he explains, adding, “So, it was really personally very special for me.”
Filming their scenes with Lang, 63, and Kaye, 58, proved to be a hoot. “Michael and Thorsten became instant buddies. It was so freaking funny. People don’t know that we’re such jokers,” Lauralee says. “We had so much fun with them. … It was bizarrely fun to look around the room and just see everybody full-on dancing.”
Cricket and Danny’s initial reunion on The Young and the Restless in November 2023 was a long-held dream by many viewers, Bell previously told PEOPLE. “We have fans that have been saying in the last couple weeks, I’ve waited 30 years for Cricket and Danny to get back together. Waited 30 years!” she said at the time.
Damian, for his part, says reuniting with Lauralee onscreen has been an “amazing” reminder of how seamlessly the two work together.
“We have a shorthand,” he explains. “I’ve known her longer than anybody in my life, besides my brothers and sisters. I met her with she was 15, so we have this incredible history … This journey we’ve had for so many years has been extraordinary. … I just know that the fans really enjoy the chemistry.”
Lauralee, meanwhile, acknowledges the actor is one of the best scene partners she’s ever had.
“I do usually know what he’s going to say before he says it. There’s something, even though that sounds like a negative, it is a positive,” she explains. “If it’s a certain scene that’s emotional, I know that I don’t have to do a lot of prep work. We know how to kind of internally communicate through eyes and stuff like that. You either have that with people or you don’t.”
Their onscreen chemistry helps explain viewers’ decades-long devotion to Cricket and Danny. (The duo even hosted Skype calls in March and June with fans.)
To that end, Lauralee and Damian hope viewers get a kick out of their latest onscreen appearance together. “I hope they smile. I hope they realize that was fun, and I hope then they download [Michael’s] single, because I get a percentage,” Lauralee jokes.
