Stephen Richardson and Monica Davis were one of six couples who got engaged in the pods on Love Is Blind season 7, but are they together after the show? The Washington, D.C.-based couple couldn’t be more different, with Monica working as a sales executive and Stephen living a more blue-collar life as an electrician. Nevertheless, they fell in love in the pods and chose to get engaged on Love Is Blind season 7. However, their journey was anything but easy. Their union seems unlikely after some shocking events in the recent drop of episodes.
The Love Is Blind season 7 cast has been wild. Tyler Francis was allegedly a sperm donor, but he was heavily involved in his three children’s lives before appearing on the show. Additionally, Nick Dorka lived at home with his parents and didn’t know what stocks were or how to boil water. Leo Braudy was so toxic and manipulative in the pods that sugar-baby-wannabe Brittany Wisniewski couldn’t bring herself to go to Mexico with him. However, no one’s actions rivaled Stephen’s in the last episode. Were he and Monica able to work out their issues?
Stephen & Monica’s Journey On Love Is Blind
They Were A Bizarre Pair From The Start
Initially, Monica and Stephen were the epitome of opposites attract. Stephen was a veteran working as a union electrician, and Monica was a posh, upper-middle-class sales executive. However, Monica was drawn to Stephen’s honesty, thoughtfulness, and openness. Stephen admitted to voting for Trump in 2016 because he hated Hillary Clinton and grew up with a Republican father, but he voted for Biden in 2020, revealing his varied political history. Additionally, he discovered through an online DNA test that he was around 13% Nigerian.
Monica was impressed that Stephen took it upon himself to learn more about Nigerian culture after believing he was Italian on his father’s side for most of his life. Stephen exhibited few red flags in the pods other than his propensity towards “mansplaining” and talking too much. Monica happily accepted his proposal.
Monica & Stephen Had Some Difficulties On Their Post-Pod Vacation
There Were Red Flags
Things took a turn in Mexico when Monica was tired of Stephen’s constant talking. Additionally, she seemed concerned about his frequent boners and discussions about sex. When speaking with fellow cast member Garrett Josemans during a group outing, Stephen shared his excitement about random “homewreckers” sliding into their DMs after the show, which confused both Taylor Krause and Monica. After Stephen shared his insecurities about getting married, Monica began to withhold sex.
Monica was high-maintenance and incompatible with Stephen, but his behaviors and manipulation far outweighed her character flaws.
Monica clearly couldn’t stand Stephen, and he became terrified of her. This was a theme mirrored in Hannah Jiles and Nick’s relationship, as Hannah constantly emasculated and berated him. Monica and Hannah are both a specific brand of TikTok-obsessed women who think female empowerment lies in belittling their men and saying things like “the ick” and “delulu” in serious conversation. At this point in their journey, Monica seemed like the bad guy.
Monica Wanted More From Stephen
He Promised Her Flowers
The Netflix stars seemed poised for trouble as Monica complained how Stephen hadn’t bought her flowers. Stephen promised to give her flowers in the pods, and Monica didn’t appreciate how he already wasn’t living up to her expectations. While Stephen claimed the flowers were just a metaphor, he had a troubling interview that made total sense after the shocking turn of events in episode 9. Stephen talked about how buying flowers was worth it, as long as he got sex afterward.
Stephen and Monica also had an uncomfortable conversation in which Stephen asked Monica to “treat him like a piece of meat,“ which shocked her. He also proceeded to speak about sexual acts that Monica wasn’t on board with and joked that giving birth was equivalent to a man suffering from a common cold. Monica wanted more from Stephen, and he just kept giving her red flags.
Stephen & Monica Broke Up
Stephen Texted Another Woman
Stephen ruined any chance of women flirting with him online after Love Is Blind season 7, episode 9. In a shocking scene, Taylor and Monica were seen crying together on the couch. It was revealed that Monica discovered texts to another woman on Stephen’s phone detailing “disgusting” kinks. Worse, Stephen claimed to have been at a sleep study the night before but was also drunk. It was unlikely he would be allowed into a sleep study while intoxicated, so his web of lies led Stephen to leave the apartment and apologize directly to the camera.
Monica and Stephen broke up on the spot, with Monica demanding that Stephen Venmo her for their expenses since returning from Mexico. Love Is Blind season 7 has been a letdown, with multiple couples falling apart in recent episodes. It’s unclear whether Monica and Stephen will return for the final episodes, but they appear to be over. Monica might be high maintenance but she deserves better after Love Is Blind season 7.
