Marissa George’s mom never liked her future son-in-law, Ramses Prashad, from the moment she met him on Love Is Blind season 7, and it looks like she was right about him all along. When Ramses and Marissa connected in the Love Is Blind pods, their romance seemed perfect. Ramses had an incredible backstory. He worked for a nonprofit organization that aimed at enacting justice reform in the US. He was also raised with a religious background and was getting back onto the dating scene after his failed marriage.
The Love Is Blind season 7 cast members looked like one of the strongest couples outside the pods. However, the two broke up right before walking down the aisle. Although shocking for most Love Is Blind fans, it wasn’t for Marissa’s mom, Vanessa. Her interaction with Ramses was uncomfortable. She made some of the meanest remarks and even threatened him. At the time, it sounded cruel, but she was probably the only person who saw past Ramses’ nice guy facade. Had Marissa probably listened to her mom, she wouldn’t have waited until the finale to know Ramses wasn’t that into her.
Marissa’s Mom’s First Meeting With Ramses
Vanessa Went On A Verbal Assassination
Love Is Blind season 7, episode 9, featured Vanessa’s meetup with Ramses. Before this, Marissa had told her mom about Ramses, stating how comfortable she was in the relationship since it differed from her previous ones. Vanessa showed up at the meeting with her three other children. She started by insulting Ramses’s hair and style, making fun of his hair and claiming he was still stuck in the 80s. Her mother was rude and aggressive towards him, leaving Marissa uncomfortable.
Marissa comes off as a controlling parent and many might have judged her based on that. Still, she pointed out a few things that were off about Ramses, but her approach was unsettling and aggressive.
Things worsened when Marissa excused herself to go to the washroom. Vanessa grilled Ramses further, asking about his job, and claimed Marissa’s potential salary was better than his. It must have been a horrible situation for Ramses, considering Marissa’s mom often insinuated he was with her for the money. She insisted on him signing a prenuptial agreement before the two tied the knot. Vanessa also noted marriage wasn’t forever, which seemed like she was projecting on the couple. At one point, Vanessa threatened to cut off Ramses’ private parts if he hurt her daughter (via Love Is Blind Netflix).
“I will just tell you if you hurt my daughter, I will cut your balls off.”
Although Marissa never talked about how her mother’s opinion of her future husband made her feel, her energy appeared off. Marissa did acknowledge that her mom needed therapy, showing that she didn’t agree with everything she said to Ramses that day. Ramses’ interaction with Marissa’s family showed why getting to know the partner’s family is important before getting deep into a relationship with them, as it was a glaring red flag for his future relationship with Vanessa had they gotten married.
Marissa’s Mom Saw Through His Lies
She Was Right All Along
Ramses could have fooled Marissa, but it was impossible to do the same to Vanessa. She could see something Marissa wouldn’t notice because she was blinded by love. Mothers have strong gut feelings, and she must have picked a couple of things that made Ramses an unsuitable match for her daughter. She was a truth-teller. Having raised four children mostly alone meant that she played both the masculine and feminine roles in her family.
Therefore, having had nothing but several failed romances meant that she wanted the best for Marissa. At first, she did come off as vitriolic, but Ramses later showed his true colors when he refused to marry Marissa because of her energy. This showed Ramses might have joined Love Is Blind for the wrong reasons. Ramses took advantage of Marissa’s positive energy and bubbly personality just to get his five minutes of fame, and the only person who picked up on that was Vanessa.
Ramses Is Selfish
The Love Is Blind Star Only Thinks About Himself
Ramses and Marissa’s connection mainly emerged due to their shared emotional openness. As the Love Is Blind couple got engaged, vacationed, and lived together, they learned more about one another. The pair resolved their issues well and talked more about their differences, bringing them closer. However, it was not until a few days before the wedding that Ramses started getting cold feet. He said he was making a rash decision, which came after the pair discussed their intimacy. Ramses was concerned Marissa was not affectionate enough, which would have caused them problems in the future.
This Love Is Blind cast member feared a lack of affection would hurt their relationship. Marissa wasn’t feeling well and explained to Ramses she couldn’t be intimate due to her premenstrual syndrome. Still, Ramses didn’t seem to care and insisted testing physical intimacy was vital before walking down the aisle. He didn’t care how she felt and only thought of his needs even after Marissa told him she wasn’t feeling okay, showing how self-centered he was.
Ramses Is Misogynistic
He Hid It Well
If Ramses was delivering a speech, he would’ve received a standing ovation for being against toxic masculinity and not confiding in specific gender roles. He later burst the bubble when talking about kids. Ramses said he wouldn’t mind caring for them if he was around. That statement made him sound like he was doing Marissa a favor despite appearing like a modern man with an open mind, considering that taking care of children was a full-time job and not part-time like he made it sound.
Marissa was a complete catch, and it was hard to watch Ramses suck the energy out of her. She is smart, energetic, open-minded, and accommodating, while Ramses only cares about what works for him. That is the reason why Ramses insisted condom sex wasn’t great despite Marissa refusing to go on birth control. He also didn’t want her to get pregnant immediately but wasn’t willing to do his part.
Ramses Was A Walking Red Flag
The Love Is Blind Star Is A Hypocrite
There were a couple of inconsistencies in Ramses’s statements, especially on gender roles and his views on relationships and marriage. It’s not that Ramses was for toxic masculinity, but he never truly wanted the responsibilities that came with being a family man. Ramses didnt want to be put in a position where he’d be held to the gender stereotypes of men, including providing for his family, but presented himself as a progressive man. He shielded himself from criticism and logically argued his thoughts on war and American imperialism to appear morally superior.
The Love Is Blind participant’s holier-than-thou vibes while pretending to consider Marissa’s wishes, especially during the birth control conversation, were covered with undertones of mansplaining. The rat tail should have told Marissa everything she needed to know when this Love Is Blind couple met. Additionally, the fact that Ramses tried too hard to prove how progressive he was but couldn’t keep his true colors hidden for long showed how much he would have turned out to be a weapon of destruction in Marissa’s life.
