Matthew Perry Special: 5 times Friend’s Chandler Bing Proved he’s the greenest flag!

Today’s internet era made people evolve to the rapid changes, be it internet dating or overnight fame— the Gen Zs are quite making a statement with their advancements in life. Human beings are made up of various emotions, but the strongest among them is the companionship and love.

No relationship is free from complexities and hardship, but the one that rises beyond these traits, often requires the efforts of one partner more than the other. This phenomenon of sailing the relationship through the ups and downs without losing hope is called the green flag in a relationship.

Chandler Bing of the iconic sitcom Friends proved he’s a green flag, decades prior before the term was even invented!
Here are five instances that signal he’s a green flag guy amongst every ex Monica Geller ever had.
1. Being a best friend for life

Chandler was always there for Monica, way before they even started seeing each other as a couple. Let’s time travel to season 1 finale, where Ross’ ex-wife Carol is in labor, and the entire friends are in the hospital for the delivery. Monica suddenly becomes sad as she didn’t have anyone in life, and she even thinks that she’ll end up alone. Here comes Chandler as a rescue to all her worries and adorably offers her to marry him if she doesn’t find anyone suitable until 40!

In another incident of Season 3, the one with flashbacks, Chandler embraces Monica in a cute hug as she is seen being all sad and out of hope. This little gesture easily shouts he’s the best friend anyone could ever get.
2. Respect and good listener

There have been multiple instances where Chandler proved that he’s a good listener and is a core believer in giving respect to women. Whether it’s his female colleagues or girlfriends, he never crosses the boundaries. Even after the little adventure with his bff Monica Geller, he carried their secret relationship until both of them were ready to disclose it to everyone.

Even when they go for their honeymoon, Chandler tries to woo the other couple with his witty sarcastic comments as asked by his wife Geller.

3. Turns into a caring husband

Chandler Bing in the final season 10 of NBC’s Friends, showcases his vulnerable side when Chandler and Monica feel the void of parenthood as they fail to conceive due to some medical complications. The couple then decides to opt for adoption and the episode where they meet Erica, the young pregnant woman, beautifully describes Chandler’s soft side. When Erica becomes skeptical about them being the foster parents, Chandler pours his heart out and tells Erica how painful it is to accept that he can’t give his wife a baby. He said, “I love my wife more than anything in this world. And it kills me that I can’t give her a baby.” He then confessed that when their day finally came, he’d be ready to be a father, but Monica was already there: “She’s a mother.”
4. Acceptance of flaws

In season 6 episode 12, Monica is furious as Phoebe calls her high maintenance and she seeks Chandler’s support to defend her by Phoebe’s blunt observation, and Chandler’s response shocked her.

Chandler said, “You’re not easy going, you’re passionate about the little things. And when you get upset about things, I like to make you feel better about that and that’s good too. So if they say you are high maintenance but it’s okay because I like to maintain you.” This incident righteously proves that Chandler Bing accepted Monica Geller with her all imperfections and chose to see the good even in the little flaws.
5. Embracing change for the love of his life

Chandler and Monica, or Mondler as they are fondly called set up the example of what true love can do. Let’s revisit season 1 Chandler – He used humor as armor against his insecurities, feared commitment, and long-time goals. However, his character developed throughout the seasons and when he started dating Monica to the time he saw her walk down the aisle, the true love changed him to a committed, loyal partner. He even embraced parenthood most beautifully.

Matthew Perry, who left the world reeling with shock from his untimed demise on October 28, will always be remembered as the beloved Chandler Bing in our hearts, A great friend, A loyal husband, and a doting father – his legacy will live on!
