More Bridgerton Plans Beyond Season 4 Gets Encouraging Update From Series Author

Bridgerton author Julia Quinn gives an update on the plans for the series beyond season 4. Season 4 was officially confirmed back in April 2021, in an announcement that verified the development of both seasons 3 and season 4. Bridgerton season 3 has since been released on Netflix in two parts in the spring of 2024, wowing audiences with its deeper dive into Penelope’s story. The Bridgerton show is based on the novel series written by Quinn.

Now, Quinn offers an update to People as to what Bridgerton’s plans might be beyond season 4. She teased that “there are plans” for content beyond season 4. She also praised the Bridgerton team’s attention to detail and thoroughness when it came to adapting the series. Check out the full quote from Quinn below:

One of the things that was very exciting when they actually first bought the series was that it was really clear to me that they put a lot of thought into it already.

We had to go through everything and very specifically say, ‘These characters are included, these characters are not.’ In that process, it was really clear to me that they had a long plan and were really thinking about all the books.

I think that’s been going through the whole way. Which is a long-winded way of saying, ‘Yes, there are plans [for beyond season 4].’ But, of course, those plans can always change.

Bridgerton’s Future Already Looked Bright

But Quinn’s Quote Makes Things Look Even Better

Quinn was still notably cautious in saying that “those plans can always change” when it comes to the future of Bridgerton. Part of Quinn’s hesitation here likely comes from the fact that season 5 has not yet been confirmed at Netflix. With Bridgerton season 4 still in development, there is still ample time for a fifth to be renewed, but Quinn likely does not want to jump the gun by saying that it is officially in the works. Still, Quinn’s statement that Bridgerton has plans beyond season 4 is a hopeful testament to season 5’s likelihood.

Even before this, the continuation of Bridgerton looked optimistic. Both parts of season 3 did extremely well on Netflix, amassing tens of millions of views and remaining in the Global Top 10 list for weeks. The release of Bridgerton season 3 also caused other seasons to creep back onto the viewership chart, showing audiences’ ongoing investment in the series as a whole and its potential for rewatching. This suggested Bridgerton might have enough momentum to sustain many more seasons

Bridgerton season 3 was the first to release in two parts on Netflix.

Bridgerton season 5 is also not the only way to continue the universe beyond season 4. The series has already made one spinoff series with Queen Charlotte: a Bridgerton Story, and could continue its universe through other spinoffs. With eight novels in total and a couple of epilogues and anthology series, there is still ample Bridgerton-related content to adapt, and from how Quinn is talking, it sounds like there are ideas for its continuation
