Tracker season 2 sets a multiple episode arc for Jensen Ackles
Tracker fans can be happy as Jensen Ackles will be back as Colter’s brother! Find out who else is coming in!
Good news for fans of Tracker as season 2 of the CBS hit will have a Shaw family reunion! Find out more here!

Tracker was CBS’ first show of the truncated 2024 season, premiering right after the Super Bowl. Justin Hartley played Colter Shaw, who specializes in tracking anything from lost items to missing persons, crossing the country to help others. The show was an instant rating smash and swiftly earned a second-season renewal.

A big part of Colter’s backstory is his complex family. His father was a professor who suddenly took the family to live off the grid and taught Colter and his brother Russell survival skills. When their dad was found dead at the bottom of a cliff, Colter believed Russell had pushed him, driving a wedge between them.

Season 1 had Colter reunite with his sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh), a college professor wary of looking into their father’s past. He then ran into Russell (played by Supernatural vet Jensen Ackles) who denied having anything to do with their father’s death. That was the last we saw of either sibling but it sounds like season 2 will have a family reunion.

Colter’s siblings will be in Tracker season 2

Speaking at the Television Critics Association 2024 summer press tour, Hartley and executive producer Elwood Reid confirmed that Ackles would return in season 2 as Russell.

“We got him,” Hartley said of Ackles. “He’s coming back,” but he didn’t say for how many episodes. It was Reid who confirmed that it would be “more than one.”

“It’s like family. When we text him [he says], ‘Tell me where and tell me when,’ and he shows up. He’s just that kind of guy.”

The pair also confirmed Roxburgh will return as Dory despite the actress landing a role on the upcoming NBC series The Hunting Party. Ackles, meanwhile, is confirmed as joining the Prime Video series Countdown. It looks like both will be able to work in some guest appearances on this show.

It will be interesting to see their returns as Colter and Russell left a lot up in the air from their respective dark pasts to find out what happened to their dad. Russell is indicated as being on his private missions and may drag his brother into another mess. The dynamic between the actors was fantastic to make the show vibe. It’ll also be good having Dory around again as she’s not into this life of excitement but still smart and driven which balances the brothers out.

It’s unknown how many episodes Ackles or Roxburgh will be in with their other series commitments, but it will be fun to see the three Shaw siblings all together on a unique road trip as season 2 looks to delve more into Shaw’s past, what happened to his father and still provide the great drama that’s made Tracker a huge hit.
