Dearest members of the ton, we (finally) have just one week to go until the release of Bridgerton season 3 part 2 on Netflix on June 13. And ahead of its debut, Nicola Coughlan (aka Penelope Featherington aka Lady Whistledown herself) has just responded to a major fan theory.
As we all know, season 3 has been dedicated to Penelope and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) love story, but as eager fans, we’re *also* keen to find out which of the Bridgerton siblings the next season will focus on. Many fans are theorizing season 4 could potentially be Benedict’s season.And if Benedict’s season will loosely follow the books by Julia Quinn, as all previous seasons have, then he will marry a woman named Sophie.
Eagle-eyed fans believed they caught a hint at confirmation Sophie would be featured in the upcoming season after Nicola shared a behind-the-scenes picture on her Instagram.
In the final snap from a carousel shared a few days ago, Nicola shared a picture of Luke Newton. And what’s that behind him? A Post-it note that reads “Sophie.” 👀 Naturally, the fandom had a meltdown believing this to be confirmation Benedict’s future wife would make an appearance.
But Nicola was quick to shut down the speculation about this mysterious Sophie after one of her followers commented, “SOPHIE?!? 👀,” to which Nicola responded to clarify it was a Post-it note for a makeup artist named Sophie: “Lolll no that’s @sophie.burton.33’s makeup station!!”
Okay, so Nicola maaaaay not be giving anything away about a potential appearance from Sophie, but that hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing Sophie will be appearing in *some* capacity in season 3.
Following the release of the trailer for part 2 a few days ago (June 4, to be exact!) some fans believed they spotted Sophie in the trailer.
Around the 1:37 mark, you can see Benedict staring at a woman whose face isn’t shown, leading many to suspect it could be Sophie. However, in the next frame, he’s looking at Lady Tilley Arnold holding onto the arm of another man, so it’s unfortunately more likely the previous frame was also of Lady Tilley.
However, we’re still crossing our fingers for a Sophie cameo in season 3.
