Bridgerton casting director revealed has been receiving unsolicited emails with fans’ auditions for the series.
Since its debut on Netflix, Bridgerton has taken the Internet to storm. Set in the Regency era, the show follows the lives and scandals of the Bridgerton family. With a unique blend of historical romance with modern storytelling, it has amassed immense popularity, becoming a cultural phenomenon.
While the show has garnered critical acclaim for its narrative, it has also become a hot topic among critics and audiences alike for its bold depiction of intimate scenes. As one awaits what is in store for the fourth season, the show casting director recently reflected on getting tons of “unsolicited” emails with auditions for the hit Netflix series.
Bridgerton Casting Director Reflects on Receiving X-Rated Emails
Bridgerton has undeniably showcased bold portrayals of intimacy, pushing the boundaries of what is usually seen in period dramas.
However, this element has seemingly troubled the series casting director, Kelly Valentine Hendry, as she recently addressed how she has been receiving X-rated emails as the fans await Season 4’s arrival.
In an appearance on a recent episode of the Should I Delete That? podcast, she admitted that she constantly had to go through and delete messages in her email, which were filled with unnecessary spam. She revealed,
It’s every day…I get the most unbelievable videos, unsolicited. It’s s*x, basically. It’s not actual s*x but it’s quite punchy, the stuff that comes through to me. It’s not nude pictures, but not far off. It’s a bit sad, really.
Since the show is based on Julia Quinn’s novels, Hendry revealed that many fans have been aiming for the role of Sophie Beckett, the love interest of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson). However, the show has yet to confirm which love story will be the highlight of the upcoming fourth season.
The first season focused on Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page). Whereas, Season 2 explored Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma, much like what the first two books by Quinn explored.
However, the third season jumped ahead to Quinn’s fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which centers on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
Apart from its unique storytelling, the show is prominently known for its steamy scenes, which was witnessed even in the third season.
Steamy Scenes Featured in Bridgerton
Every season of the acclaimed Netflix series has taken a different approach when it comes to their explicit scenes. It didn’t shy away from breaking the normal period drama style by depicting sexual relationships in detail.
By embracing those moments, the show has molded it to plot progression, which further delves into understanding the development of characters.
Taking the example of Daphne and Simon’s relationship, their bond significantly evolves through their intimate encounters. The duo’s physical connection turns out to be a key element in exploring their emotional journey, which is heavily implied in their intimate scenes.
While the first season greatly explored the intimate moments, not entirely featuring the main stars of the season, the second season took somewhat a step behind. The show didn’t have as many spicy moments as the first one but it didn’t shy away from advancing Anthony and Kate’s relationship in a steamy way.
As for what the show offered in the third season, it was Penelope and Colin’s love story to explore. While it did feature S2 stars in an intimate moment, it quickly shifted its focus on season 3’s main stars, who had several raunchy moments that helped in progressing the plot.
