Opinion | Is ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 Worth the Wait?

My first year of college, in 2022, I was hesitant to join the ‘Bridgerton’ fandom. ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 had just come out, and my love for the enemies-to-lovers storyline had taken over my heart. I just wanted to watch. Honestly, this first season was hard to watch. I liked Daphne and Simon when they were alone, but their relationship was hard to watch and their problems seemed insurmountable. I mean, Daphne’s whole problem at the end of the day was that Simon refused to ejaculate inside her, which eventually led to her attacking him and forcing him to get her pregnant. But I persevered with the thought that there would be witty stories and longing glances in the sequel. And oh my god, I ended up loving it.

Kate and Anthony saved the day. Their love story and dynamic were so real and compelling that it took me breath away. While it took me nearly a month to finish Season One of “Bridgerton,” I finished Anthony and Kate’s season in less than two days. I was so enamored with the story and setting of the Bridgerton siblings that I fell in love even more when “Queen Charlotte” came out last year. I have to admit that I shed a few tears over her and George’s story. Even though I’m a Benedict girl, when I learned that it was a sequel to Penelope and Colin, I was thrilled.

And when the opportunity to preview Season Three came up, I jumped at the chance.

On Valentine’s Day morning, I rolled out of bed and jumped on the livestream to preview Season Three of “Bridgerton.” I may have only seen two minutes of it, but it was later shared to the wide world of social media, but let me tell you—I was so excited.

The “Bridgerton” special kicked off with Shonda Rhimes—aka the genius behind Shondaland and shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal”—running the brand-new show, Jess Brownell, and “Bridgerton” source material creator Julia Quinn.

“This time, we know who’s in love. We’re rooting for them,” Rhimes, the show’s executive producer, said when asked about her favorite part of the new season.

“Bridgerton” has a new couple every season. And while we’ve been following the Bridgerton siblings since Season One, unlike previous seasons that featured outside romances, Penelope Featherington has been with us from the start. We’ve seen her friendship with Colin grow, and it’s finally time for their relationship to take things to the next level. And of course, it’s time for the infamous carriage scene.

“We’re going to see these characters come into their own this year,” Brownell replied. “I think it’s going to make a lot of people who are crushing on someone or feeling like they’re the underdog feel very included.”

Finally, the beloved cast is on screen. Much to the disappointment of many who watched live, there’s no Regé-Jean Page, Simon; Phoebe Dynevor, Daphne; Jonathan Bailey, Anthony; or Simone Ashley, Kate. But fans have to remember, this is “Polin’s” season. And it’s “Polin’s” time to shine.

“They’ve had cosmetic changes, but then you really realize they’re still the same big nerds on the inside,” said Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope.

When asked if Penelope has any other suitors this season, the video cuts to new character Lord Debling. Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, replies — “my biggest threat.”

And of course, “Bridgerton” wouldn’t be “Bridgerton” without a slew of supporting characters and subplots. The cast really emphasizes the importance of Penelope and Eloise’s relationship this season. For those who forgot, the Season Two finale left Eloise and Penelope in a heated argument over Eloise discovering that Penelope was the elusive Lady Whistledown. Rhimes calls their relationship “the second love story of the season.”

Not only that, Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte, and Adjoa Andoh, who plays Lady Danbury, also discussed how their characters transition from the stories told in “Queen Charlotte” to the upcoming season of Bridgerton.

“You can see in the early stages of these women how they have to navigate this new arena. How they protect themselves. How they strategize. How they form alliances. Who they avoid and who they lean toward,” Andoh said.

“Season three of ‘Bridgerton’ is a long way off. Fans have been told that production will begin in 2022 when filming wraps in March 2023. Initially, it was assumed that Netflix would release the new season in December 2023. But unfortunately, fans will have to wait even longer with the season one release date being
