It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the original Twilight movie hit the big screen.
The film spawned another four sequels and The Twilight Saga made household names out of stars like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
The entire series earned over $3.4 billion at the box office and followed the budding romance between a sullen human girl Bella (Stewart) and a brooding vampire Edward (Pattinson), while outside forces threaten to keep them apart.
Edward was a member of a secretive “family” of vampires, led by 365-year-old hospital physician, Dr Carlisle Cullen.
Peter Facinelli played the Cullen patriarch and told Today Extra he still gets stopped in the street by fans of the films and books they are based on.
“I remember being in Thailand and fans would come up to say they loved that movie,” he said.
“It is just a world-wide phenomenon and we will have fans that are showing up and watching it all the time, so it is wonderful to have that support.”
Like all good film franchises, Hollywood can’t leave well enough alone and there are already rumours of Twilight getting a reboot with suggestions Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega would be perfect as a modern-day Edward and Bella.
Peter said as unlikely as it would be he’d get the call to put Carlisle’s doctor’s coat back on for the reboot, he’d jump at the chance.
“I haven’t heard anything, but I am sure if they did they would probably want to do it with new characters,” he said.
“The thing with vampires, they can’t age, so as much as I like to think I haven’t aged a day in 15 years, it might be time to pass the baton over to some other actors.”
But even if they found a way to make Peter’s Carlisle work, or had another role – maybe a member of the Volturi or a human – he’d be all for it.
“If they did call and say they wanted many to play another role or that character, in some way, I would love to revisit it,” he said.
“It is such a fun franchise.”
