‘People are disgusting’: Luke Newton defends ‘Bridgerton’ co-star Nicola Coughlan against cruel body-shaming🌍
The high society scene is supposed to be all about flirting and gossip, but the drama has spilled over into the wilds of the screen, and this time Lady Whistledown couldn’t help but address it with a scathing social column. Nicola Coughlan, beloved by fans for her witty portrayal of Penelope Featherington, has endured a barrage of cruel body-shaming since the release of ‘Bridgerton’ season 3, leaving her in tears and sparking outrage online.
‘Please don’t share me’: Nicola Coughlan’s heartbreaking plea
The hurtful comments, many of which targeted Nicola’s weight and suggested she was unsuitable for the role of Penelope, have been relentless, appearing everywhere from social media to mainstream publications.
“If you have an opinion about my body, please, please don’t share it with me,” Nicola begged in a recent interview with Vogue.
“It sounds simple, doesn’t it? I’m just a real person, and it’s hard to bear the weight of thousands of opinions about your appearance being sent straight to you every day.”
The actress shared a particularly sad example from a Spectator article, which called Penelope “obese” and claimed that it was “unreasonable” that she won Colin Bridgerton’s heart because of her weight.
