RAVEN-SYMONÉ CAN’T REMEMBER FILMING ‘THE COSBY SHOW’ DUE TO DISSOCIATIVE DISORDER
Raven-Symoné‘s iconic status as a child star began when she joined The Cosby Show. But in a new interview, she’s revealed that she can’t remember much from her time on the show aside from what her parents have told her.
According to Atlanta Black Star, Raven-Symoné said in a recent episode of TV One’s Uncensored that she can only remember small snippets of her time on The Cosby Show, saying, “Honestly, I don’t remember…a scene.” The most she can remember is when she was not acting in character as Olivia Kendall.
“I remember the smell of the soul food coming out of [Bill Cosby]’s dressing room,” she said. “…When we open the show in front of a live studio audience, you had to walk up these stairs and we came down that classic staircase. I remember standing up there and playing with the wood before I went down.”
“I do not remember as soon as the camera starts,” she continued. “Something clicks off and I do what I’m trained to do.”
The Raven’s Home star said that thanks to therapy, she learned that what her mind was doing was disassociating, a disorder that affects many people.
“It’s disassociation, I just black out,” she said. “I turn into who I’m supposed to be when the camera’s on, and then I come back to life when ‘normal’ life resumes. Again, it’s bottled up.”
