“Really Beautiful Story”: Oliver Stark Hints at Emotional Episode 6 Scene

9-1-1 star Oliver Stark teases a significant scene between his character Buck and Ryan Guzman’s Eddie when the ABC show returns from a hiatus. The main thrust of 9-1-1 season 8’s Halloween episode, titled “Masks”, centers on Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) and their family unit. Hen opts to be on shift for the spooky holiday, which causes a disagreement between her and Karen. But the decision to work ends up saving the life of their son Denny (Declan Pratt) after an unbelievable accident. But in the B-plot, Buck has a fair lighter accident of his own.

In an interview with TV Insider, Stark teed up what’s ahead for Buck in the upcoming episodes. Even though 9-1-1 season 8 will go on a small hiatus, it will be back on ABC on November 7 at 8 PM ET with a new episode titled “Confessions.” In the quote below, Stark mentions that Buck will share a scene with Eddie that “speaks volumes.” Read the quote below:

I think that kind of moves along a little bit in episode 6. Eddie has some really beautiful story in episode 6, and I think there’s a really nice scene between the two of us, myself and Ryan, at the end of 6, that speaks volumes to what the relationship between them is and how even when they don’t have to say too much to each other, they know how to be there for each other.

What Stark’s Quote Means For Eddie & Buck

The Fan-Favorite Pairing Will Share Some Quality Time

Stark’s comments promise a continuation of the threads that were teased out in the Halloween episodes, with Eddie and Buck finally sharing some meaningful moments together and separately after the three-part premiere largely turned its lens on Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause) handling a plane-related crisis. “Masks” broadens out the spotlight, bringing in Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), in addition to Hen.

In Buck’s case, this means his fear of being essentially cursed by a corpse. On the surface, this leads to some funny moments between Buck and Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr). But it also loops back around to highlight Buck’s immense empathy and desire to help others, even if that someone else is long buried in the ground. Tommy doesn’t fully grasp this, being new in his relationship with Buck, but he rolls with the punches.

Eddie is amused by Buck’s curse fixation, as well. But the end of “Masks” brings about a harsh reminder that Eddie is still missing his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) and not knowing how to bridge the gap that was created at the end of 9-1-1 season 7. Stark mentions that the scene in question won’t just be about Chris’ absence, which raises questions about what could be in store for the fan-favorite Eddie and Buck pairing. “Masks” set the tone with something lighthearted, but the next installment may well go deeper.

Our Take On The Next 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode

It Should Be A Big One

The brief hiatus will likely only inspire more speculation about the show’s return, considering the popularity of Eddie and Buck and hints that the episode will be significant. Stark’s character will share scenes with his sister Maddie and Bobby, as well, and wade into new waters with Tommy which should make it a busy time for the ensemble ahead of a possible 9-1-1 season 9 renewal.
