REVEALED: Super chef Gordon Ramsay was a footballer. Which club did he play for?
Gordon Ramsay was a professional footballer. He switched to cooking after suffering a serious injury.
Which club is Gordon Ramsay a fan of?
Gordon Ramsay, star of shows Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen, was a professional footballer.
He was a big fan of Glasgow Rangers and used to go to the stadium to watch the Scottish side play as a child.
As a youngster, Gordon Ramsay started playing football regularly and realised he had some talent.
“I was very good,” Ramsay told Observer Sport Monthly. “I was a tough left-back and a good interceptor. I was very fast, a great 100m runner. If you were to compare me to anyone, it would probably be Stuart Pearce.”
Which team did Gordon Ramsay play for?
Gordon Ramsay played for Oxford United in England. When he was spotted by a Rangers scout, his family returned to Scotland so Gordon could join the club’s Academy.
“My father was a Rangers fan and was very proud of me. But those were difficult and stressful times. I didn’t know if I would make it as a player,” the chef admitted.
“The games were really violent, not like the football we see today,” he added. And Ramsay suffered a serious knee injury that forced him out of action.
Although Ramsay claims to have played for Rangers’ first team three times, there is no documentation to prove it. He did play in a match in September 1985, in which he was listed as a Rangers trialist.
Ramsay still regularly plays in Soccer Aid charity matches. He has achieved great success in the culinary field. He has three Michelin stars and, according to Forbes, earned $62 million in 2018.

David Beckham and Gordon Ramsay are close friends. Their families have gone on vacations and spent Christmas together.
Beckham and Ramsay’s friendship began when the superstar chef catered the Beckham family’s pre-World Cup party in 2006. When Beckham moved to Los Angeles, the two families became even closer, as they were both British in the US.
In 2013, Beckham wanted to invest in a restaurant in London owned by Gordon Ramsay. The former England midfielder also helped his chef friend recover from a serious injury
