Simone Biles got a shoutout on a live broadcast after her husband, Jonathan Owens, scored a touchdown in the Chicago Bears’ season opener on Sunday.
Owens got the score thanks to a blocked punt against the Tennessee Titans by the hands of Daniel Hardy.
Owens, the safety and special teamer, scooped the ball up and scored – celebrating by extending his arms on the way there.
NFL announcer Adam Amin called the action, telling viewers ‘Mr. Biles getting in there!’ – referencing Owens’ gold-medalist gymnast wife.
Responding to a clip of the play on X, formerly known as Twitter, the gymnastic icon wrote: ‘I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK.’
She also shared the clip on her Instagram story, adding: ‘LFG!! TOUCHDOWN FOR HUBBY.’
While Amin didn’t intend to stir up controversy, his comment did bring to mind (for some) the time he went on the ‘Pivot’ podcast earlier this year.
On that episode, Owens claimed that he didn’t know who Biles was before getting into a relationship with her.
He also claimed to be ‘the prize’ in their relationship during that interview, which seemed to stir up some controversy.
It even forced Simone to give a response to the criticism – in which she defended him and implored people to stop calling him ‘Mr. Biles’ in a hurtful manner.
‘Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband,’ Biles said at the time.
‘So I’m gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, f*** off. & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I’m just going to block you. Simple as that.’
