Simone Biles is in the house for Wednesday night’s US Open quarterfinals in New York after her record-breaking success at the Paris Olympics.
Biles, who claimed three gymnastics gold medals and a silver in the French capital this summer, was all smiles as she watched fellow American Jessica Pegula seal a place in the women’s semifinals with a straight-sets win over Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
The gymnastics icon will also be in attendance when men’s No 1 seed Jannik Sinner locks horns with Russia’s Daniil Medvedev (No 5 seed) later in the evening.
In an interview with ESPN, she said about being at Arthur Ashe Stadium: ‘Oh my god, so far it’s been electric. It’s a lot quieter than I anticipated, but it’s a beautiful atmosphere.’
At the Paris Games, Biles became the most decorated American gymnast of all time after taking her overall Olympic tally to 11 medals.
The 27-year-old is also tied for the second most female gymnastics medals in Olympic history along with Czechia’s Vera Caslavska.
She headed to the US Open on Wednesday night looking stylish in a light blue jacket, white crop top and matching pants and sneakers with black shades.
Biles was watching on as Pegula made it to her first ever Grand Slam semifinal after seeing off Swiatek in a confident 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The 30-year-old American, whose parents own Buffalo’s NFL and NHL teams, had never made it past the last-eight stage of a major championship in 13 years as a professional.
Pegula will now take on Czcechia’s Karolína Muchova in the last four on Thursday night.
Tennis is not the only sport Biles has been enjoying since wrapping up the Olympics last month, nevertheless.
Last weekend the gymnastics great threw out the first pitch at a Houston Astros game, with teammate Jordan Chiles joining her on the day.
After Simone tossed the ceremonial first pitch, she was seen laughing with Jordan and taking selfies with other Houston-area Olympians before taking their seats.
It is unclear whether Biles will make it to another Olympics after her triumph in Paris over the summer.
By the time the Los Angeles Games comes around in 2028 she will be 31 years old, which is well above the typical prime age for gymnasts – who tend to peak in their early 20s.
‘Never say never. The next Olympics is at home, so you just never know. But I am getting really old,’ Biles laughed when discussing the LA Olympics last month.
