Snoop Dogg family drama headed for HBO

Rapper Snoop Dogg will produce a family drama series for HBO based on life in early ’80s LA.

The series, which doesn’t yet have a title, will be co-executive-produced by Allen Hughes (“Menace II Society”), Snoop Dogg’s manager, Ted Chung.

Rodney Barnes (“Everybody Hates Chris,” “The Boondocks”) will write the show.

The series will revolve around “a family whose seemingly idyllic life is turned upside down by the collision of their community and American politics.”

Snoop Dogg, 43 — his real name is Calvin Broadus Jr. — was born in Long Beach, Calif. and, during his teen years, was a gang member.

He appeared on Wednesday night’s season finale of “Empire” and has had small roles on “The L Word,” “Weeds” and “Entourage,” among a handful of other TV appearances.
