Snoop Dogg Reflects on Meeting Paul McCartney, Hopes For Future Collaboration

In a recently released interview alongside Dr. Dre for Complex, Snoop Dogg reflected on meeting Sir Paul McCartney following a show in Hollywood. According to Snoop, the pair met backstage, following McCartney’s request to speak to the iconic rapper. As a self-proclaimed Beatles enthusiast (“I’m a fuckin’ fan of the Beatles”), Snoop was starstruck in the presence of the legend, but more surprised than anything that McCartney knew who he was: “He give me a hug and he meets me, and it’s like, ‘Fuck. Paul McCartney knows who the fuck Snoop Dogg is.’”

When interviewer Jillian Hardeman-Webb (@jilliansuperstar) pushed back on Snoop’s bewilderment, reminding him of his massive impact on music, he figured himself as a fan first in that memorable moment. “Fuck who Snoop Dogg is. This is Paul McCartney, he knows who I am.” Beyond requesting to meet Snoop Dogg, McCartney also encouraged the legendary Death Row rapper to continue smoking backstage, despite the latter’s offer to stop in McCartney’s presence.

This slight moment clearly meant a lot to Snoop. “That’s the experience that I love is when the people you respect, respect you,” the rapper explained. “And that’s only from doing quality shit,” he added, smiling. When asked about a potential collaboration in the future, Snoop jumped at the opportunity, replying, “Yes, in a heartbeat,” before praising “Ebony and Ivory” and “The Girl Is Mine,” McCartney’s crossovers with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
