Star Wars and The White Lotus Stars Join The Office Sequel Series Cast

The new series that will serve as a follow-up to the American version of The Office has found its first cast members. As of now, the series hasn’t been officially greenlit just yet, but if it lands a series order, the show will star Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.

Per THR, the two actors would be part of a larger ensemble cast, as was the case with the previous version of The Office. Gleeson is known in part for his roles in major franchises, which includes playing General Armitage Hux in the Star Wars sequel trilogy along with Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter films. He’s also been nominated for a Golden Globe for the TV series The Patient — which just so happened to co-star The Office‘s Steve Carell. Meanwhile, Impacciatore is known for earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her role in Season 23 of The White Lotus, and has appeared in a slew of Italian movies and TV shows.

The series is co-created by Greg Daniels, who developed the American version of The Office, the mockumentary series inspired by the original UK show by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Daniels will be making the follow-up series alongside Michael Korman, who co-created Nathan Fielder’s Comedy Central series Nathan For You. According to the new report, Daniels and Korman still consider the series to be a potential project, as it still hasn’t been set up at a network or streamer at this time.

Details Are Scarce About the New Office Show

No details have been shared about the characters that will be played by Gleeson and Impacciatore. It’s also unknown where the series will be set, leading to speculation that it will follow the employees of a different office with no connections to Dunder Mifflin. However, the series is said to be set in the same world, and won’t be considered a reboot by the creators. That seems to leave the door open for characters from The Office to possibly pop up with special appearances.

The previous version of the U.S. adaptation ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. It boasted an ensemble cast originally led by Steve Carell as the boss of Dundler Mifflin’s Scranton branch, Michael Scott. Carell left the series as a main cast member in Season 7, but the show continued for an additional two seasons. There were plans at one point to make a spinoff series following Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and his family at their beet farm, but the project was canceled before production.

The Office is streaming on Peacock.
