Suits star to lead Yellowstone spinoff

Yellowstone’s next spinoff series has cast Suits actor Patrick J Adams.

The star, best known for playing Mike Ross in the USA Network show, will appear in the series alongside the rumoured Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, according to Deadline.

The untitled show, which is set in the modern day and has gone under the title 2024, is expected to begin filming this month for a premiere next year.

The series will follow on from the main show, which is due to wrap up the second part of its fifth and final season later this year.

The new spinoff was confirmed at the same time that the main series would be concluding.

“I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios CEO Chris McCarthy said at the time.

Yellowstone’s conclusion comes amid the exit of main star Kevin Costner, who has since spoken on the behind-the-scenes drama around his departure and the making of his movie Horizon.

The actor confirmed he wouldn’t be coming back in June of this year, telling fans on Instagram: “After this long year and a half of working on Horizon, doing all of the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone – that beloved series that I love, that I know you love – I just realised that I’m not going to be able to continue season 5B or into the future.

“It was something that really changed me,” he added. “I loved it, and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. And I love the relationship that we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”
