Dearest Gentle Readers … we have been apart for far too long.
We’re inclined to agree, Lady Whistledown. But fear not, with only five short weeks to go before the new season of Bridgerton, we’re delighted to give you the official trailer for Bridgerton season three.
With champagne flowing, ball-goers dancing, and Pen’s hair looking as chic as ever, there is much to digest in this fully packed trailer as we await the third-season premiere of Bridgerton part one on May 16.
First off, we learn that Penelope is ready to take a husband. But secondly, Colin is shirtless! We’re here for it and more. So much more.
Also — Eloise and Cressida as friends? Quite the development in the ton, if we do say so ourselves. And though Polin’s friendship is on the rocks, Pen and Colin strike a deal of sorts. This arrangement — to help Penelope gain confidence — might just put their longstanding connection to the test. Indeed, as Penelope slowly sheds her wallflower ways, her beauty and intelligence shine through, and other suitors come calling. Hello, Lord Debling!
As if the trailer wasn’t enough, keep scrolling below for seven new photos that are sure to set the fan sites ablaze with theories, rumors, and excitement for everything we’ve been waiting for … for far too long.
Is this a new bond forming between a Featherington and a Bridgerton? “Francesca [Bridgerton] likes her quiet time,” says Hannah Dodd about her character, seen here with Penelope Featherington. “I can be like that too, but I think I am better in smaller groups. I would say groups rather than one-on-one. But Francesca definitely likes one-to-one [conversations]. I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m an introvert, but I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m an extrovert either — I feel like I have levels. I need my alone time, like Francesca does, but not to the same extent as her.”
“Alice has always pushed Will,” says Emma Naomi of her character, Alice Mondrich. “She’s always been the one behind the scenes who is trying to make ends meet and to live well. And she has a really strong work ethic. It’s interesting to witness a transition in her [this season].”
Penelope and Colin have much to contend with this season, including Colin’s time away from the ton. What was he doing across Europe besides getting a tan? “He hasn’t really had time to spread his wings and grow up,” says Luke Newton of Colin. “He’s had his two older brothers, and they’ve gotten to go do everything.”
The queen’s nerves are put to the test yet again in season three with Lady Whistledown’s antics reaching new levels. Will Queen Charlotte continue to play the game, or will she get fed up and move on? Regardless, her trusty sidekick Brimsley is there to help steer things.
Each of the middle Bridgerton brothers has a unique path to go down this season. It’s hard to say where Colin and Benedict will end up, but we always hope for the best outcome regardless of how much drama happens in the middle.
The Featheringtons are front and center this season as Penelope’s storyline comes to the fore. We know the sisters love the limelight, so they’ll relish whatever attention they can get. As for Lady Featherington: “She’s still got her back against the wall,” says Polly Walker of her character. “She seems to be permanently tortured on some level. How that pans out, I’m not quite sure.”
“We’re going in deeper with a magnifying glass and finding out more than we’ve ever seen before about Cressida’s life,” says Jessica Madsen, who plays Cressida Cowper. “And we’re getting to now see this relationship she’s forming with Eloise. I think the surprise will be to see just how vulnerable she is actually going to be.”
“Adjoa [Andoh] is a force of nature,” says Daniel Francis, who joins season three as Lord Marcus Anderson. “It’s so refreshing and empowering [to work with her]. I haven’t seen her for about 14 years, but we were in the theater at the same time years ago. Even back then, I could see that she had such an amazing energy, and it’s been [good] to be around that again. Because of the way that she carries herself, it uplifts you as well.”
