The Office Reboot: Confirmation, Cast & Everything We Know

Based on the UK series of the same name, Greg Daniels created The Office in 2005 when it debuted on NBC. With the mockumentary format and wide variety of characters led by inept manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell), The Office found its footing in season 2. It then became a bona fide hit for the network throughout its nine-season run before coming to an end in 2013. Talk of a revival of The Office has steadily gained momentum in the years since, and the reboot finally feels closer than ever.

For months, the supposed reboot of The Office existed in a bit of a gray area as reports flooded in about showrunner Greg Daniels assembling a writer’s room, and even casting news. However, all of those updates were marked with an asterisk as they weren’t officially confirmed by Peacock. Now, The Office reboot has earned an official green light, and it is finally coming to fruition after years of speculation.

Many cast members from The Office have continued their acting careers through TV or movies. Some like Steve Carell and John Krasinki are consistently expanding their careers as headlining actors. Jenna Fischer has spoken about The Office reboot, and revealed that she has not been approached yet.

The Office Reboot Story Details

The Reboot Will Be Set In The Midwest

Perhaps the most speculated about part of The Office reboot has been its story, and it was long shrouded in mystery with very little detail. However, when the show was given the official green light in May 2024, story details were also divulged. The Office reboot will not be a simple rehash of the original, instead, it will see the documentary crew from the first show following around a new subject. The reboot will be set in the office of a Midwestern newspaper that is struggling to get back on its feet with a crew of volunteer reporters.

Though this doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a crossover with the original show, the disparate setting would make it difficult for the residents of Scranton to make cameos. However, the reboot will be set in the same universe as The Office which opens the door for anything to happen. With the show being about a newspaper, it could be entirely possible that Dunder Mifflin does business with the struggling print operation in The Office reboot.
