The One Dish Gordon Ramsay Refuses to Eat, No Matter What
The celebrity chef seems fearless—unless it comes to this one dish.
British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known for being a bit of a tough cookie. The multi-Michelin-starred TV host is rarely afraid to speak his mind and try new things—sometimes blindly, as he did a few weeks ago in a mystery tasting segment on Jimmy Fallon.
But in a recent interview, Ramsay revealed the one dish he absolutely will never eat—and you might be surprised to learn that it’s something people all over the world eat.
“There’s no way I’m going to eat it on a plane,” Ramsay told Refinery29. “I’ve worked for airlines for years, so I know where the food has been and where it’s been delivered, and how long it takes to get it on the plane.”
Instead of eating on the plane, Ramsay often opts for a pre-flight snack of protein, fruit and wine.
“A great selection of Italian meats, a small glass of red wine, some sliced apples or pears with a little Parmesan cheese, I’m like a pig in a shithole,” he says.
When it comes to cooking at home, Ramsay also revealed that he relies on four main kitchen tools on hand at any given time: a mandolin slicer, a Philips Airfryer, a good hand blender and a hand blender (which he says is for making breakfast smoothies).
In recent months, Ramsay has been making headlines as the newest member of the Smurfs family. According to reports in February, Ramsay will voice a character in Sony Pictures’ upcoming animated film Smurfs: The Lost Village—but don’t worry kids (and parents), the celebrity chef’s signature colorful language will likely be toned down for the G-rated film. Late last year, Ramsay also teamed up with Masterclass to produce a series of cooking tutorials (you can watch a trailer for the tutorial series on YouTube). He was the only chef to make Forbes’ list of highest-paid celebrities last year, with an estimated $54 million in earnings in 2015.
