“My dad was a Rangers fan and was incredibly proud of me,” Ramsay told Observer Sport Monthly in 2002. “But it was tough and nerve-wracking. I never knew if I could do it. I was scared most of the time.”
He played for the team for three years until a knee injury ended his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
“It was heartbreaking,” he told the Observer, adding: “I still love football and I think cooking is like football. It’s not a job, it’s a passion. When you’re good at it, it’s a dream job.” He earned a degree in hotel management before embarking on his culinary career.
After his sporting career ended, Ramsay decided to go into the hotel business. He earned his degree in hotel management in 1987.
