This New ‘Bridgerton’ Character Reminds Me of Cinderella

Check it out!! The Bridgerton family has added a new face to their already large cast, welcoming Yerin Ha as Benedict Bridgerton’s love interest, Sophie Beckett.

Ha is reportedly set to appear as Beckett in the fourth season of the Netflix period drama, which will follow the romantic pursuits of Benedict (Luke Thompson). The fourth season will borrow material from Julia Quinn’s third book in the Bridgerton series, An Offer From a Gentleman. The synopsis for the upcoming season describes the segment as following Benedict, a Bohemian second son who is reluctant to settle down, only for a “Lady in Silver” to enter his life and change his mind.

The Lady in Silver refers to Sophie Beckett, who is known to be the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood and one of his maids in Quinn’s novel. Beckett was raised in her father’s house, but the Earl never acknowledged her as his daughter. She suffered the loss of her mother as a young girl and was doted on by her grandmother, with whom she had a close bond.

As she grows up in the book, her difficulties only increase, especially after the Earl’s death when she was only 14. Her stepmother, Araminta Reiling, reluctantly lets her stay at home because of the allowance she pocketed until Sophie turned 20. Beckett is forced to wear a maid’s hat and perform household chores. Reiling’s two daughters, Rosamund and Posy, also turn a blind eye to their half-sister, for their own reasons.

Sophie grows up to be a caring woman with strong morals, always ensuring the comfort of others before ensuring her own. Her first encounter with Benedict takes place at the Bridgerton Masquerade Ball, where the servants of Penwood House push her to attend despite her initial reluctance. They are able to create a costume for her from the loft, begging her to enjoy a night off and be herself. At the event, she runs into Benedict, and after he asks her to dance with him, sparks fly between the two. It’s hard not to compare Sophie’s story to Cinderella, the iconic folk tale that has been known to humanity for ages. Beckett seems to be a well-established character in Quinn’s series, and fans of The Ton will surely be excited to see how the showrunners decide to portray him on screen.
