Three-Michelin-starred Gordon Ramsay to pop up at Aria for three nights only

Three-Michelin-starred Gordon Ramsay to pop up at Aria for three nights only

British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is bringing his three-Michelin-starred restaurant of the same name to Sydney for a three-night residency at Aria starting on 8 May.

Gordon Ramsay’s first stint outside London is a “dream come true” for Ramsay, who has teamed up with long-time friend Matt Moran and chef-guest Matt Abe for the exclusive dinner series.

The seven-course menu, priced at $495 per person, will feature Gordon Ramsay signatures such as scallop raviolo and praline pecan dessert.

But don’t expect Ramsay to be working behind the pans: the kitchen will be run by Abe, who started his career at the age of 17 in the kitchens at Aria in Sydney. He has since risen through the ranks at Ramsay, where he was appointed chef de cuisine in 2015.

“I am thrilled to be returning to the restaurant where my love of fine dining began,” Abe said. “It feels good to be back home as Australia’s first and only three-star chef.”

Restaurants Gordon Ramsay has employed a number of high-profile chefs throughout its 25-year history, including Clare Smyth, the first woman in the UK to win a three-star Michelin award. Clare Smyth’s Oncore at Smyth recently picked up three awards in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2023.

Moran said the one-off restaurant collaboration at Aria was the culmination of a 25-year friendship with Ramsay. The pair worked together on a curated menu at Bea at Barangaroo House (closing in August 2022).

“It’s an honour to have Restaurant Gordon Ramsay doing his first residency outside of London at Aria,” said Moran. “These three nights will be a real highlight of Aria’s 23 years; I can’t wait.”

A spokesperson for the event revealed that Ramsay will be in Australia filming at the time, but could not say whether he would appear.

The dinner will cost $495 per person, with a $295 premium wine pairing option. Bookings for “Restaurant Gordon Ramsay Comes to Aria” go on sale at 9am on Thursday 13 April at ariasydney.com.au.
