Tom Selleck hints CBS made mistake ending Blue Bloods as series prepares to wrap up show after 14 seasons

The show’s upcoming 14th season, which will premiere in February, will be Blue Bloods’ final season.

Blue Bloods revolves around the main characters of the Reagan clan, an Irish-Catholic American family in New York City that has a history of working in law enforcement.

Tom’s, 78, fan-favorite character, Frank Reagan, serves as the New York Police Department’s Police Commissioner and the Reagan family’s patriarch.

The 1980s Magnum P.I. actor understands how beloved Blue Bloods is, implying in a recent interview that CBS was cutting the show prematurely.
“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” Tom told TV Insider.

“The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas.”

The Tom-led drama will consist of two parts for the final season.

Blue Bloods also stars Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, and Vanessa Ray.
Season 14 will have 18 episodes, with the first 10 airing starting on February 16.

The season will come to an end with the last eight in fall 2024, totaling 293 episodes.

The new episodes will also simultaneously stream live on Paramount+.

‘AN HONOR & PRIVILEGE’
Tom released a statement about the long-time show only airing one more season.

“For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” he told Variety.

“Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.”

Tom ended: “Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

Blue Bloods was the most-watched primetime show on Fridays for Season 13, according to Deadline.

It also brought in more than 9.5 million viewers, making it the third most-watched broadcast drama.

‘CAN’T BE TRUE!’

“What a ride, but my heart is breaking,” one X, formerly Twitter, user said.

“Not the final season! No!” wrote another.

A third added: “No. This can’t be true!”

“… Feeling sad. Thank you for all the years of hard work & happiness that you & the rest of the cast have given us,” said another.
