‘Tracker’: Justin Hartley Teases Jensen Ackles’ Return in Season 2

The Shaw Brothers are set to reunite for Season 2 of Tracker, and things could get complicated. It was previously announced that Jensen Ackles would reprise his role as Russell Shaw in the new season of the CBS drama, leading viewers to assume that he and Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw will delve deeper into their complicated family background. With Ackles returning in Episode 2, Hartley teased what’s to come when speaking to TV Insider. “It’s more about family,” Hartley shared. “We ended the first season with Colter having a lot of questions. He doesn’t even know who he can trust anymore. At the beginning of last season, he thought his brother had something to do with his dad’s death, and then he finds out, wait a minute, he might not have anything to do with it. Also, why is Dory (Colter’s sister, played by Melissa Roxburgh) hiding all of this?”

“So Russell comes back, and Colter has a few questions for him about Dory’s situation and the box she has, and does Russell know where it is?” Hartley continued, “Russell is also quite heroic in Episode 2, and they get involved in a really dark operation, which is weird. And all of a sudden these government officials start asking about our dad, and you’re like, ‘Oh, what’s this all about?’ So, with each episode, Dad is becoming a little more vindicated, maybe, or maybe completely insane. We don’t know. We’ll dig into that a little more.
When Russell first appeared last season, it was revealed that his relationship with Colter wasn’t the best, and it all started with their dad’s death. But now Colter has some questions about what exactly happened and who their dad really is in relation to his secrets, which could make for a pretty interesting storyline. We can also expect Melissa Roxburgh to return at a later date, as the actress has a new show on NBC. Hartley said she finished filming before Tracker, so that’s very possible.

At the very least, it’s comforting to know that Jensen Ackles will be returning to Tracker given his busy schedule. The Supernatural alum will be hosting new Prime Video series Countdown and The Boys spinoff Vought Rising, and will also appear in the fifth and final season of The Boys. It would be difficult to solve a Shaw family mystery without all three Shaw siblings or, at least, another Shaw sibling besides Colter, so fans will want to tune in to Season 2 of Tracker starting Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS to see what happens.
