‘Tracker’ Renewed for Season 2 on CBS
The Justin Hartley-led drama debuted less than a month ago in TV’s best time slot: after the Super Bowl.
has found its first series renewal for the 2024-25 season.
The channel has renewed Tracker, the Justin Hartley-led drama, for a second season. The show debuted on Feb. 11 in TV’s best time slot — after the Super Bowl — and currently ranks as the No. 1 show, according to the latest Nielsen data, with 16 million multiplatform viewers. The channel says Tracker is its most-watched new series since Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon debuted in 2017-18.
“Tracker kicked off our premiere week with explosive ratings and continues to build momentum,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “We knew we had something special when we saw the first cut of the series, and the overwhelming response from audiences confirmed it. We are incredibly grateful to Justin, the talented cast, the incredible writing and production team, and our partners at 20th Television for such compelling episodes. And of course, we are incredibly grateful to the millions of viewers who tune in every week.”
Formerly known as The Never Game and based on the best-selling novel by Jeffery Deaver, Tracker has been ordered to series through late 2022 after CBS put the project, with Hartley attached to star and executive produce, into development in late 2021. The renewal should be seen as a positive sign for CBS’s commitment to year-round development as the broadcast continues to focus on strategy rather than spending millions on multiple pilot episodes in a three-month period, which often doesn’t allow shows to find their creative footing.
The series is also a win for Disney, whose 20th Television produced Tracker as part of Hartley’s overall deal with the studio, which was behind the actor’s previous hit series This Is Us. Hartley, Ken Olin, Elwood Reid and Ben Winters are executive producers.
Tracker is the first CBS series to be renewed for a broadcast cycle 2024-25. The show is one of two new originals debuting in the 2023-24 season affected by the strike, with Elsbeth debuting last week. The reception comes as CBS finalizes Blue Bloods, Bob Hearts Abishola, SWAT and Young Sheldon this year.
