Tracker season 2 is confirmed and has been given an early renewal.
CBS praised the #1 new show and locked in the sophomore season before the first concluded.
The main cast is expected to return for the new season, continuing Colter Shaw’s thrilling adventures.
CBS’ thrilling procedural series Tracker has scored an early renewal for season 2, and there are already exciting updates about the sophomore season. Debuting in February 2024, Tracker concerns a lone-wolf survivalist named Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) who uses his expert tracking skills to make a living by helping people recover lost items and find missing people. Based on the book The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, Tracker has a sharp and fascinating edge that many procedurals lack, as well as an interesting lead character to build upon.
The critical reception to the fledgling series has been largely positive, with many praising the simple but effective approach to the procedural format that has thoroughly run its course (via Rotten Tomatoes). Despite an abundance of the genre on TV, procedurals that aren’t cop shows prove to be consistently popular because they can use the case-per-week formula without getting bogged down in the repetitiveness of actual police and law proceedings. CBS saw something strong in the first few episodes of Tracker, and the show was quickly renewed for another case.
Tracker Season 2 Latest News
With the second season already on the way, the latest news sees star Justin Hartley confirm cast returns in Tracker’s sophomore outing. Though it can be assumed that the main cast, including Hartley’s Colter Shaw, will be back en masse, Hartley has also announced that several guest characters will return as well. Potential love interest Billie (Sofia Pernas) will return, as will Jennifer Morrison’s Lizzy. Hartley also teased a larger role for Colter’s family in season 2.
Read what Hartley had to say about Tracker season 2 below:
She’s definitely coming back. We have some pretty cool stuff for her to do next year. She’ll be back several times next year. We have plans to bring back my whole my family…We have a lot of questions to answer with Colter’s mother. Jennifer Morrison does this really wonderful performance. I think we’d be remiss not to bring her back. We built this really great group of actors [who are] hopefully more than willing to come back, because we’d love to play more with them. We have a bunch of stories to tell with all [of them].
Tracker Season 2 Is Confirmed
In an extreme vote of confidence in the young series, CBS opted to renew Tracker for a second season before the first batch of episodes even concluded. In the post-strike year of 2024, quick renewals seem less likely, but the fledgling action/adventure series delivered what was needed to snatch up a speedy green light. Premiering after the 2024 Super Bowl gave the series a big boost, but Tracker has continued to turn in high ratings weeks after the honeymoon period usually wears off on a new show.
Tracker quickly became the most-watched new series on CBS since the debut of Young Sheldon in 2017, and the network is keen to keep the momentum going. Glowing about their #1 new show, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said “TRACKER kicked off our premiere week with a ratings bang and has kept the momentum going. We knew we had something special when we saw the very first cut of the series and the overwhelming audience response confirms it.” All that is known about the show’s upcoming return is that it is slated to be part of the 2024-2025 season.
With the new season only freshly announced, the cast of Tracker season 2 has not been confirmed yet. However, the likelihood of the main cast returning en masse is quite high, and Justin Hartley will undoubtedly return as the rugged survival expert Colter Shaw. Besides a slew of supporting characters who help to connect Shaw to his past, the series employs a wide range of guest stars in each episode as the eponymous tracker earns his rewards by helping those who need his services the most. At this juncture, it is impossible to guess who those guest stars could be.
It has been confirmed that two guest stars will return to reprise their roles in season 2, which suggests they are being promoted to recurring status going forward. Justin Hartley himself announced that Sofia Pernas will be back as Billie, while Jennifer Morrison will reprise her role as Lizzy in the sophomore outing. Hartley also teased more family drama in season 2, hinting that Jensen Ackles could be back as Colter’s brother, Russell Shaw.
Tracker Season 2 Story
At this juncture, it is impossible to speculate on what exactly will happen in the new episodes of Tracker when season 2 does finally roll around. Though season 1 has hinted at Colter’s past and explored why he opted for such a nomadic lifestyle, those questions will not be fully answered in just one season. Therefore, aside from the case-per-week format, season 2 of Tracker can be expected to shine more light on the mysterious Colter Shaw and his father.
